Yes, it is confusing. Lets stop it now, before we actually start BELIEVING what we're saying...

When the characters behave out of character or the story begins to have too many plotholes, not only does it become unbelievable, but I begin to think that the writers have not done their homework. And if the writers and producers don't care about it, then why should I? That is when people switch off, the show 'jumps the shark', and they might as well pack up and go home.

Eeek, I'm a little apprehensive about weighing in on a discussion with so many experts about. I plead my case as a total 'newbie'.

As far as I can tell, there are loads of plotholes in Doctor Who and some of those are created by character who 'behave out of character'. But faulty memory and emotional outbursts, lies and exaggeration are part of being human (or human-like).

While the writers need to use characters to convey facts and story, sometimes the characters take on lives of their own, and grow, almost independently of the writer. The writer becomes a conduit, almost a stenographer, taking down the near organic development of character and plot from their imaginations.

My pedantic side loves squirelling for inconsistencies and I agree that there needs to be continuity and research in screenwriting, but my emotional side loves sci-fi for its disregard of convention and its possibilities.

Thanks for stimulating my imagination! This thread rocks.

LadyGiggs: From Austrailia, but you sound quite clued up for a self confessed 'newbie!'

You may be right, but i think that they've just tried to keep different Drs a bit individual. allowing plot holes. If we've noticed the inconsistancies, the makers must've.

Just hope there are plot cross overs from Dr Who into Torchwood. The trailers look great!

Talking of trailers, I just checked out the BBC3 releaed stuff on you tube. But there are some other clips out that must be Torchwood, can't see what else they are.

Is this a clip. Reply if you know, or if you've even seen it before. I've been a fan since the whole Torchwood speculations started, but have only just come accross this. What do you rekon? part of a trailer?

Re: Doctor Who paradox *spoilers*

It is obviously a fake cctv video, so maybe it is something given to the Torchwood Institute to investigate in an episode.

I would wonder more how it got onto the web rather than some more interesting clip from the series. It looks like part of a viral marketing scheme to me - the same as was done before Serenity was released with the River interview sessions.

Re: Doctor Who paradox *spoilers*

Finally saw a couple of trailers last night and it looks fantastic. Dark and exciting.

I fervently pray to the Flying Spaghetti Monster that the ABC pick up Torchwood.

You lucky sods, even if it gets picked up here we won't be seeing it any time soon. Anyone need an Australian to fill that extra space on the settee?

Re: Doctor Who paradox *spoilers*

OK, the way I see it, the POD could not have been after Queen Victoria, since there is a Rose in one universe and not in the other. If the POD was after Rose helped the Doctor defeat the werewolf and create our universe's Torchwood then Rose would have to have existed in both Uni's for that to happen. However, that leaves the POD at some point before Queen Vic, so I reckon the Doctor of the other universe (if he exists) would have had to have another reason to go to Victorian Scotland.

Another possibility is that the Doctor simply doesnt exist in the alternate universe. Perhaps there is a different benign power going through the universe helping out, or more likely there isnt one at all, since no one turned up in the alternate universe to stop the Cybermen.

Therefore, Queen Vic and the powers and influences she had must have found another way to defeat the werewolf and found Torchwood.

It's farfetched I know, but it is Doctor Who!

By the way, does anyone know what universe the new series of Torchwood will be in?

You will regret starting this off again

As for Torchwood, I assumed it was in our Universe. I don't know that though. Only two days before we find out though
