Finally found The Wizard!

I was a bit depressed because I had absolutely nothing to read so I decided to check the bookstand at the local grocery store, usually they have nothing but I did once find The Knight, by Gene Wolfe at this very bookstand, and what a find it proved to be.

So today when I spotted The Wizard on the bottom shelf it was like, "Whoa! I am saved!" and then "Hummn I wonder, there simply has to be a God of literature and I was just noticed!" Not to mention the fact that I had been searching for this book since I had read The Knight!

Re: Finally found The Wizard!

Glad to hear it Rahl.

I recently picked up an omnibus edition of Gene's Wizard Knight with some rather nice illustrations.

Re: Finally found The Wizard!

Gene Wolfe's writing style is really unique and very good, even the worlds he builds are unique and wonderful to read about. His characters are very natural, but natural to the "nature" or his world and not something I have read about before.

I must seek out more from Gene Wolfe because apparently some of his other books are even better.

I have seen a few websites that claim Gene Wolfe is the best writer alive that writes in the English language, and it is becoming hard to disagree.

Re: Finally found The Wizard!

Reading The Wizard now, and thoroughly loving it. I've actually had the book for a good 6 months or so, but refused to read it because I knew it was the second half a duology and I loved The Knight so much that I just couldn't bare the prospect of finishing the series. But I've bitten the bullet, and look forward to the many future reads that will be required to fully understand what's going on.

Try Fifth Head Of Cerberus, Latro In The Mist duology, Book Of The New Sun, Peace and his collected short stories Tales From The Old Hotel.

As far as being the best writer in English langauge, maybe pushing things a little although I've been known to suggest such thnigs of Gene myself...

Re: Finally found The Wizard!

this is for Gollum ---- I registered on this forum just yesterday to ask a question and saw your icon. As it happens I visited MOMA in NYC yesterday and was standing in front of "Starry Nights" I couldn't help but put the two together. I should probably go by Lottery tickets now, huh

Yes but Gollum I was not the one to really "suggest" Gene Wolfe was or is the best author in the english langauge, thats why I provided the link. However I was just finding it difficult to disagree, his writing style is very unique.

Re: Finally found The Wizard!

I finished this story and I have to say that I was able to predict part of the ending though I was wrong as to the outcome. I will not say what it was that I predicted if you want to discuss it PM me as I would never want to spoil any part of this story for anyone else. Gene Wolfe is a very good author no doubt about it.
