Wayfarer Redemption I just wanted a few more comments about this series (after getting some opinions in the books of Sept. thread). I'm liking the Axis trilogy enough to keep going with the Wayfarer Redemption. However, I read a few summaries of the books, and they sound pretty depressing to me, especially the last one, Crusader. It seems like the bad stuff is insurmountable. Don't get me wrong, I enjoyed the last Thomas Covenant trilogy, as dark and oppressive as it was, but I'd like to know that there is enough positive influence to make the evil overtones bearable. Ok, I'll admit it, I like a somewhat happy ending and ending a book on a high note .

Re: Wayfarer Redemption Wimp... ![]() No I've read both series but from memory things became harsher in the second series than in the first although I do remember it had a fairly upbeat ending. Original Aixs triloy still the best for me. I'm sure Rosemary will add to this once she sees this post... ![]()

Re: Wayfarer Redemption See told you we think alike... ![]() @Elvet: Meant in good-natured banter, so please don't take to heart and in fact ultimately I like to come away from a book with at least some positvie outcomes albeit not all beer and skittles.

I must admit, there are some rather depressing scenes in Wayfarer but these are interspersed and counteracted with many uplifting passages in the story. I think if you managed the 'vile skraelings' scenes in Axis, then you should manage Wayfarer. I don't particularly like 'dark and depressing' stories either and yet I didn't even think of not finishing the trilogy...I couldn't put it down! ![]() I am sure you will be surprised and quite happy with the ending of this series. ![]() | |

Re: Wayfarer Redemption Thanks, Rosemary. I must admit when I finished StarMan today, I desperately wanted to know what happens next. There are so many possibilities with conflicts between Axis' children. Looks like I'll have a trip to the bookstore this week .

Re: Wayfarer Redemption I was a bit confused for a second there because they published the book a bit differently in the US. The firs Axis book is called The Wayferer Redemtion here and it's plugged as a six book series. Anyway, I looked it up and get it now. The second three books get really weird. I read something Sarah wrote about trying to keep the fantasy world as much like the world we know as possible but she really doesn't follow her own advice. I think the second trilogy is made up of real page turners, especially if you've invested the time in the first one. Wanting to see what happens to the next generation is a great motivator to keep reading. What I was surprised about was how very strange the story got toward the end. I thought it was very creative, I just found myself unsettled by the strangeness. And that was strange because I'm usually drawn to strageness. My point is, I think you should keep reading and tell us what you think ![]()
