Re: Best Female Singer?

This really shows how out of touch I am with modern music. I've not heard of many of these singers. But on the other hand, I still like listening to Carly Simon and Linda Ronstadt. And I'm also a fan of Delores O'Riorden of the Cranberries and Sinead O'Connor. (She's lived in controversy but has a wonderful voice).

Re: Best Female Singer?

I love Carly Simon's voice! As for Sinead, she does have a lovely voice and not many people I know has a face so beautiful as to withstand a close up for so long!

Alanis Morissette. She has great lyrics, and has clearly grown through her music. The emotion behind each song hasn't been lost on her throughout the years, and her range is incredible.

Some others I want to mention are Melissa Etheridge, Sarah McLachlan, Madonna, Enya, Lucy Lawless (I love her voice), Annie Lennox, Norah Jones (my brother refers to hers as a "dark chocolate" voice), Tori Amos, and both of the Indigo Girls. I'm surprised some of these haven't been mentioned earlier, because they all have amazing talent.

Tarja Turunen (ex Nightwish), Cristina Scabbia (Lacuna Coil), Mama Cass, Ella Fitzgerald.

There are plenty more I can mention but the list would get to long.

Re: Best Female Singer?

Yma Sumac - the vocal range that Mariah Carey wishes she had
Diamanda Galas - very scary and powerful
Tori Amos - I've seen her live five times
Imani Coppolla - where is she now?
and all the obvious greats of the past

Re: Best Female Singer?

All good singers. However I was shocked to see that nobody had mentioned Stevie Nicks!! She was and still is without a shadow of a doubt the greatest female vocalist who has ever lived.

Allison Crowe. Did she sing a cover of Hallelujah? If you have it then feel free to send it to me.

Re: Best Female Singer?

I really like Ella Fitzgerald, very few come even close.

I've recently begun to really enjoy the music of India's film industry which awes a lot to the voice of Alka Yagnik. I've seen several different faces singing with her voice in Bollywood movies.
