| Re: Best Female Singer? I have to agree with Janis and Etta - both incredible. They lived their songs. I would also add from the classic side, Joni Mitchell and Joan Baez. For newer singers, I love Sarah Maclachlan and KT Tunstall. I'll probably think of more later. |

If you've never heard some of her earliest recorded work, try to get hold of Gram Parsons' two solo albums, from the early 1970s, GP and Grievous Angel. They are available on one compilation CD, at least here in the States. She sings harmony on both of them, and their voices blended in an amazing way. I especially recommend "We'll Sweep Out the Ashes in the Morning" on GP and "Love Hurts" on Grievous Angel. Just amazing work. |

I have only heard one Janis Joplin song but it had such emotion and power I could not disagree with you

| Re: Best Female Singer? Celine Dion is probably the most talented. Never heard her hit a wrong note. I'm afraid I disagree with Amy Lee being the best singer - I'm a huge fan of Evanescence, but Amy's live vocals are mediocre at best. Nightwish's Tarja Turunen, Within Temptation's Sharon den Adel and Lacuna Coil's Cristina Scabbia are far better in my opinion, and in a similar vein of music. =) Quote:

| Re: Best Female Singer? You so beat me to saying that. A lot of people haven't had any exposure to even the larger-scale bands of that style, the ones that you mentioned. Since Amy Lee is all they have to base their opinions of it on, they're definitely going to praise her if that style appeals to them. For me, "that style" of music happens to be my absolute favorite (female-fronted symphonic rock/metal) so I've experienced more of that style than most. Sadly, I've had to conclude that Eva's name is almost too appropriate in terms of how long they've kept my interest. |

| Re: Best Female Singer? 'That style' is probably my favourite style as well. Though I like Ev a lot and am looking forward to their next album, I wouldn't say they're my fave band. There are lots of others who deserve more recognition than they get. =/ |

). That's how he grew to love her! She was his suggestion but I included her in my list as I tend to agree with him! Thank you! xx
