| Re: Simon Scarrow I love Scarrow's work. He is very personable. I have emailed him a few times after reading the books and always have recieved a nice reply. We are a little delayed in the States with his stuff, but well worth the wait!! I cannot help but see Macro and Cato in HBO's Rome...I do wish they gave these men a TV show like Sharpe!!!!! I would watch it every week!! bryans |

| Re: Simon Scarrow amazon are doing some reductions on simons books right now especially the paper backs. The US amazon site only sells the us versions and only have limited titles, so would say use the UK ones, the reductions should more than make up for any postage costs. Now if your arfter signed collectable issues then im your man, fortunatly i have got to know both the scarrow brothers and so have reasonable access to signed copies. if you have not done so you should read Alex Scarrows A thousand suns novel Off the coast of New England, a trawler tangles its nets on wreckage from sixty years ago - a B17 'flying fortress' , perfectly preserved and containing the final and most terrifying secret of WWII. When freelance photographer, Chris Roland, enters the sunken plane , what he discovers in the dark, tomb-like interior changes everything he knows about the end of the war and how desperately close it came to being the end of everything. A Thousand Suns is a tale that cuts breathlessly between the present, as a long dormant and sinister agency stirs once more, readying to preserve the secret at any cost - and the past, as a young crew of German airmen, the very last of Hitler's Luftwaffe, fight impossible odds to save their country. As both plots race towards a conclusion, this most horrifying wartime revelation hangs in the balance. or even check out his book trailer http://youtube.com/watch?v=0PvdbSvdJ0o enjoy |

| Re: Simon Scarrow I bough his book Young Bloods about Wellington and Napoleon only cause Napoleon and cause i couldnt find Cornwell's Sharpe books in the store. Anyone read it yet? Also is his Roman series any good? Is like the tv show about two Centurions perspective of Roman life? Is it too focused on the military action or do you get to see the Roman world too? |

| Re: Simon Scarrow Just finished CENTURION, book 8 in the Cato series and must say another great read from SS, great battle scenes with plenty of action, a bit of intrigue, a bit of romance and the usual coarse humour. 8/10. |

| Re: Simon Scarrow Is he similar to Conn Iggulden? I saw some of his books in the store and was looking at getting Young Bloods or Under the Eagle. Is he more character driven or does he have many characters that you try to keep up with? Is his style simple or complex I.e does he like to mince his words or get to the point or does he like twists and only battle scenes? |

| Re: Simon Scarrow Well, we first meet Macro, a centurion who's risen through the ranks and is worried that his illiteracy might cost him his position, and Cato, very close to the imperial family, joins up and is made Macro's optio (second-in-command). The books follow these two through the invasion of Britain, the Middle East etc. The books show a real feel for the situation of those at the sharp end of Roman foreign policy (beat them up, absorb them, if they don't like it, beat them up some more) in the first century AD. |

I thought they were both very good reads, the thing with Scarrows writing is that his characters are very life like and the battle scenes are easy to imagine and very well written ( there's a snow ball fight in Young Bloods thats brilliant )If you like good characters and realistic battle scenes then you can't go wrong ![]()

He is not like Conn in that Conn focuses on many characters in his series. Scarrow is two characters kind of stories. In Young Bloods series specially. I dont think he is as good as Conn overall but he is very good at capturing the feel of military life of those days both in his Roman series and Napoleon series. I enjoy his Napoleon portrayel alot.
