Robert Asprin Having been raised with a future PH.D in english, I was exposed to countless different writers. One being Robert Asprin, author of the Myth series. "Another Fine Myth" and so on. I have decided to give this author and series of books a look-see and I 'm wondering if any of you were familiar with the Myth series and if so, what your thoughts were. If you are not familiar, maybe you might want to check it out yourself. Last edited by Eway; 21st August 2006 at 09:06 PM..

Re: Robert Asprin The first true fantasy-comedy that I ever read .. I recall them so fondly. These books showed that you did not need a ring to be good fantasy, although you might want to steal a nice ring if you could get a few silver for it. Seriously, these books were the foundation for comedic, satirical fantasy. In my view, he is the early pratchet (although not nearly as satirical) .. he brought comedy in. Also, his Thieves World books were one of the first collaborative fiction endeavors that I know about. He was married to Lynn Abbey and they put it together .. a terrific world that for me brings a bit of fun to swashbuckling city fantasy, a la Fritz Lieber.

Re: Robert Asprin Did he add a 'co-author' on these two? Maybe that's a pattern - since he did the same with the Phule's Company books. I haven't read the "Myth" ones yet - but if he did the 'co-author' thing, I may not read many.

Re: Robert Asprin As I recall, Robert Asprin has had a gigantic bout of writer's block, which lasted years ... That's why all the next volumes in his two series didn't appear, and didn't appear ... He seems to have finally broken this by working with other writers ... Wonder if he has a website, must google ...

Re: Robert Asprin He did write a number of books on his own for the Myth series. It has since been split with books about the main character being written by him and books around the secondary characters being written in collaboration. You should also check out the Castle Perilous series for some comedy sf. Can't tell you the author as I am about 8000 miles from my library.

Re: Robert Asprin A lot of the Myth series was hilarious, but I think only the first Phule's company book was decent, the others went downhill fast. I had read somewhere that Aspirin had gotten into $$ trouble and this had contributed to his not writing recently. Hit or Myth was my favorite in the whole series, I especially loved the quotes at the beginning of every chapter.
