Unhappy Help I need something new to read

I need help. I can't think of anything new to read I was wondering if anyone had any recommendations you could make. Most of what I have read has come from these boards but I a bit stuck. I want fantasy I have already read:

Robert Jorden
Steven Erickson
Gene Wolf
David Gemmel
Raymond Fiest
Ursula Le Gunn
Robin Hodd
Terry Brookes
That god awful Terry Goodkind (shiver)
Julian May

I really stuck and don't know who to pick up next most of the above have come from this site Steven Erickson being my Fav. I've read the recommendations thread but its a bit overwhelming.

Any suggestions??????????

Re: Help I need something new to read

For you my twin brother not a problem...

If you like Erikson, try Paul Kearney's new Sea Beggar series starting with Mark Of Ran.

If you haven't yet read R Scott Bakker's Prince Of Nothing trilogy, a must for any EPIC fantasy fan. All 3 books are out.

If you're after more historical fiction/fantasy maybe check out Neal Stephneson's Baroque Cycle (starts with Quicksilver).

Greg Keyes Kingdom of Bone and Thorn quartet.

For New Weird can't go past the "Father", China Meiville. Perdido Street Station a must read.

I asume you've read most of Gene's work then? If not check out his Wizard Knight duology and Latro In The Mist (soldier) series. Of course Book Of The New Sun is great!!

Patricia McKillip's Riddlemaster Of Hed.

Form your above list I reckon Kearney or Bakker or Keyes are probably the closest. Tad Williams is also very good, check out his author subforum here OH and you must check out George RR Martin's Song Of Ice and Fire if not aready, especially for EPIC fantasy!!

Gotta rush, hope this helps...

PS Pretty much anything form the Masterwork series is worth a look.

Cheers...

Re: Help I need something new to read

One of the newer authors being praised quite heavily right now is Scott Lynch. His debut novel is The Lies of Locke Lamora. Im reading it right now and its quite good. Im not sure how it will pan out, but right now its reading like a cross between Steven Brust and Quentin Tarantino.

Oh, and of course Im obigated to steer you towards George RR Martin's A Song of Ice and Fire series, my personal favorite. The first novel is A Game of Thrones.

Aye, agreed Gollum. 'Mark of Ran' is pretty good.
Try A Cavern of Black Ice by JV Jones, though we're still waiting for the third book in that series.

Re: Help I need something new to read

i alway recomend george r martin because he's amazing, and he was a fan of robin hobb (maybe still is ) although liking one doesn't mean you will like the other, he likes her, if that's anything to go by.

everyone else i usually recomend, you've already read!

Mercedes Lackey has written some very good books.

R.A.Salvatore's Demon Wars Saga

Or perhaps one of my favourite authors, Sara Douglass, starting with the Axis Trilogy.

Re: Help I need something new to read

Gollum's list is a good starting point - you might also want to add JV Jones' Sword of Shadows and George RR Martin's A Song of Ice and Fire to that list, and if you can find it, Vera Nazarian's Lords of Rainbow. And of course, Scott Lynch's Lies of Locke Lamora - which has the widest appeal of any book I've read recently.

Re: Help I need something new to read

Thanks for the suggestions. I've just been over to amazon to check a few out. I have to say R Scott Bakker's Prince Of Nothing looks good. Also Song of Ice and fire I've heard a lot about it on the boards. Which is the first book

A Game of Thrones is the first in Martin's series.

Bakker's series is one of the best I've ever read

A Sword from Red Ice is out in December 2007 (grrr). Jones is already at work on the fourth and final volume, A Shadow Under the Ice, although at her present production rate that won't be out until about 2011!

As for the recs, yep what most people have said: The Mark of Ran, The Prince of Nothing Trilogy and A Song of Ice and Fire (starting with A Game of Thrones). Kate Elliott's Crown of Stars (starting with The King's Dragon) may also be worth a look.
