Re: Help I need something new to read For you my twin brother not a problem... ![]() If you like Erikson, try Paul Kearney's new Sea Beggar series starting with Mark Of Ran. If you haven't yet read R Scott Bakker's Prince Of Nothing trilogy, a must for any EPIC fantasy fan. All 3 books are out. If you're after more historical fiction/fantasy maybe check out Neal Stephneson's Baroque Cycle (starts with Quicksilver). Greg Keyes Kingdom of Bone and Thorn quartet. For New Weird can't go past the "Father", China Meiville. Perdido Street Station a must read. I asume you've read most of Gene's work then? If not check out his Wizard Knight duology and Latro In The Mist (soldier) series. Of course Book Of The New Sun is great!! Patricia McKillip's Riddlemaster Of Hed. Form your above list I reckon Kearney or Bakker or Keyes are probably the closest. Tad Williams is also very good, check out his author subforum here OH and you must check out George RR Martin's Song Of Ice and Fire if not aready, especially for EPIC fantasy!! Gotta rush, hope this helps... ![]() PS Pretty much anything form the Masterwork series is worth a look. Cheers...

Re: Help I need something new to read One of the newer authors being praised quite heavily right now is Scott Lynch. His debut novel is The Lies of Locke Lamora. Im reading it right now and its quite good. Im not sure how it will pan out, but right now its reading like a cross between Steven Brust and Quentin Tarantino. Oh, and of course Im obigated to steer you towards George RR Martin's A Song of Ice and Fire series, my personal favorite. The first novel is A Game of Thrones.

Re: Help I need something new to read Gollum's list is a good starting point - you might also want to add JV Jones' Sword of Shadows and George RR Martin's A Song of Ice and Fire to that list, and if you can find it, Vera Nazarian's Lords of Rainbow. And of course, Scott Lynch's Lies of Locke Lamora - which has the widest appeal of any book I've read recently.

Re: Help I need something new to read Thanks for the suggestions. I've just been over to amazon to check a few out. I have to say R Scott Bakker's Prince Of Nothing looks good. Also Song of Ice and fire I've heard a lot about it on the boards. Which is the first book

As for the recs, yep what most people have said: The Mark of Ran, The Prince of Nothing Trilogy and A Song of Ice and Fire (starting with A Game of Thrones). Kate Elliott's Crown of Stars (starting with The King's Dragon) may also be worth a look. | |
