Skip ahead to MoI? So someone over on the "other" board suggested that one could read GotM then MoI and not miss anything, skipping Deadhouse Gates. Is this true? Since coming to this forum Ive read post after post of everyone raving about how great Erikson is. I want some of that too. I made it through GotM and thought it was pretty good, but I just couldnt make it through DG. I ended up giving it away. The consensus seems to be that MoI is THE book to read. Thoughts? please dont try to sell DG to me, Im not buying.

Re: Skip ahead to MoI? Yes you could skip DHG and move on to MOI.MOI follows directly on from GOTM,but if your planning to read the whole series the you will need to read DHG. Can I ask what the problem was with DHG?

Re: Skip ahead to MoI? I'm of the opinion that they should be read in order, but then, I'm also of the opinion that Deadhouse Gates is about a hundred times better than Gardens of the Moon with one of the most incredible endings ever put to paper (I guess you didn't get that far - the end of that book is when I reeeeally fell in love with Erikson's work, some of it was quite hard going up 'til that point), so... do what you will!

Re: Skip ahead to MoI? They should be read in order.I read the first five one after the other. Then struggled to get into anything else.DHG was an emotional roller coast that I didn't think could be topped, then I read MOI.

Re: Skip ahead to MoI? Due to their conmplexity and to gain a full appreciation of Erikson's storytelling ablities the books should be read in order. There are events in DHG that parallell or link back into MOI as from memory those two books are supposed to coincide chronologically. Trey Greyjoy, how far into DHG did you get, 50%, less than 50%, 75% because the ending of that book packs a highly emotional punch? MOI for me is the best book to date but they're all excellent.

Re: Skip ahead to MoI? **sigh** I got about halfway before I just put it down. I wont go into specifics because I have a bad feeling the discussion would devolve into a "yes it is" "no its not" back & forth morass. To put it simply, DHG just isnt "where Im at" right not in my reading preferences. Interesting, some of the opinions on the "other" board suggest that DHG need not be read to read MoI, but only to appreciate the greater story arc, but most agree that all need to be read. Given the fact that GotM felt like the reader was dropped into the middle of the action, Im not sure Id feel any more lost reading ahead than I was before. Particularly if I could find a good synopsis. Heck I feel like I need a synopsis for GotM!!Its possible Ill go back to it at some point. The comments are interesting. I thought GotM was quite good, although it was in serious need of some editing Overall I really thought his ideas were very unique and showed a maturity not often found in fantasy literature. Some of the "scenes" will stay with me. What I found in DHG though was....different, Ill leave it at that. The general consenus is that DHG is better than GotM?

Re: Skip ahead to MoI? I enjoyed DHG gates move to be honest it made me cry. Take the time to read it I felt it was very rewarding and exciting story. It had a hard impact and a different point of view when it came to fantasy battle moment which I found refreshing and more relistic.

Re: Skip ahead to MoI? Although I had difficulties when I first started to read GotM, I did finish it and moved on to the next volume... DHG was easier to read and yet the storyline did not seem as good as GotM.

| Re: Skip ahead to MoI? I think to skip any of it is to say that you would rather not read the series, simple as that. Plus the fact that if I skipped a book in any series I would constantly be wondering "why?" about many things that I would have no idea about and the resulting confusion would ruin an otherwise great story.
