Re: Anything but Ipod! I absolutely loved my first MP3 player, I can't even remember what it was called, I think it had the word blue in the name. It only held like 20 songs but I was so happy that I could just make a play list of what I wanted and it loaded up really quick. I dropped it once and lost the on/off switch. The second one I got had an armband and a nike symbol on it. I could drop it all I wanted but it would freeze up and I would often have to update the firmware every time I got a new version of windows media player, oh and also with both of them I was constantly replaceing the batteries. Last year I having a very stressful commute from work to school because the train was ssoooo crowded so I broke down and used some of my student loan money to by a product that rymes with shmy-pod from a company with a name the rhymes with Shmapple. I have never been more content with a product since I got my "shmy-pod shmini" I got a sturdy case so I can drop it, haven't had to replace the battery yet but acutally I think the price comes out better than all the batteries I bought for my other players, if the firmware needs updating I think it does that automatically. I don't use the headphones that come with it though 'cause those things drive me crazy and also let theives know you have one. I just have a set of headphones comming out of my backpack when I commute.

Re: Anything but Ipod! i have a mini too, but i'm going to have to get a new one soon, because it's a 4GB and it's just about full. i remember thinking when i got it that it would take me forever to fill it up, but i was sooo wrong! i keep having to be vigilant and take anything off that i don't listen to so i can keep adding more. i've been looking at the video ones, and the price has come down a fair bit for a 20GB so i'll probably get one of those. they don't come in pink though you can get pink cases for them, but it's not the same. maybe i'll just get out the pink nail polish and paint it myself!

Re: Anything but Ipod! Hey! I've got a Samsung YP-Z5 (black) absolutely brilliant!!! The battery life is excellent, sound pure, the screen size viewable - plus it's sratch proff and its made of a cool aluminium casing. Like Adasunshine i've too got the Sony W810i walkman phone, thats cool too. There are lots of decent rivals out there to the i-pod, I suppose it comes down to a image thing.

Re: Anything but Ipod! I have an Iriver H320. Got it about 18 months ago and it still does everything I want - Plays all sorts of codecs including WAV and OGG, displays text files, pictures and videos, recording to MP3 from line in or microphone on the go, radio and USB on the go. It wouldnt be to everyones taste though, it certainly isnt the best looking gadget and its controls can be a bit quirky.

Re: Anything but Ipod! I bought an MP3 player when I got my new laptop. I found the sound, even after going back to the Computer Shop with it, was nowhere near as good as that on my hi fi system, in the car or CDs played on the laptop... So I sold it! ![]()

Re: Anything but Ipod! Yeah, anything but Apple, which has quite consistently put out quality products over the years. The Ipod is a fine MP3 player.Oh, and do you know why your Microsoft software craps out every few years? So you have buy a new P.C., that's why. Bill Gates: Con Man Extraordinaire.

Re: Anything but Ipod! My microsoft-based PC has yet to crap out on either the hardware end or the software end. It's not the software's fault so much as the brand name computer companies' faults as well as the average, non-savvy user's fault. Hardware end: Computer hardware isn't built to last, and is pumped out at a rate that guarentees that it'll be phased out within a few years. Software end: If your microsoft-based operating system seems as though it's in the final, agonizing throes of death, it's due to user neglect. Is the user making sure their windows version is consistantly up-to-date? Are they taking precautions to keep malware, virii, and other clutter to a minimum? The average user just puts along, letting their PC pick up whatever is floating around on the internet and their friends' equally-unprotected PCs. Basically, PCs neglected in this fashion could be compared to someone who never, ever takes a bath. Eventually, they're going to suffocate and die beneath the weight of their own filth.

Yeah, I must shamefully admit that at this very moment I am using a P.C. It's an alright machine (can't beat that Microsoft Word for nothin'), but I still wish I had my Imac. ![]()

Re: Anything but Ipod! You are correct, Paige. The extra memory is vital for executing any virii that might be embedded in a given document, and for rendering that friendly and adorable little paperclip...in real time, and in multiple instances if necessary.
