I can't believe it! This is actually, really, being made after so long in the works...

Secrecy surrounds new X Files movie

Billy Connolly says working on the new X-Files movie has been like "being followed by the CIA".

Speaking at the Bafta/LA British Comedy Awards in Beverly Hills, the comedian revealed the security for preventing plotline leaks has been extreme.
"I can't tell you anything about [the film] or I'd have to kill you. I'm not allowed to tell anyone, my family even," he joked.

But he added: "My wife knows because I told her, she made me but she's sworn not to tell anybody."

Apparently, after a day of shooting, actors haven't even been allowed to keep their lines.

"When you get the little script in the morning it's red with black writing and you have to give it back at the end of the night in case people steal it. Somebody did find one of those sheets that tell you who's doing what during the day and it appeared on the internet. It was one of the crew's day sheet - it's like being followed by the CIA, it's weird."

Billy said working alongside David Duchovny (Mulder) and Gillian Anderson (Scully) has been a great learning curve.

"It's great to be a part of, can you imagine working with them two, how tight it is? They're used to that depth of acting and taking their time and it's such a luxury because you're used to being in things where you have to hurry along. I think I acted quite well in it, there's a couple of bits in it where I thought 'that might actually be ok'," he said.

I've merged your thread TK-421, but I've left a re-direct to this small forgotten corner of Chronicles.

That is one a reasons I really wonder if this film will be successful. Surely, it is about 5 years too late?

I loved the film but I may have been blinded since I love the X-files. I've not heard any great reviews for it.

Re: The X-Files: I Want To Believe (2008)

I just saw this film. I went with no high expectations, but I was pleasantly surprised. It is a very good film. You don't need to have seen anything about the X-Files before to understand it, though it does progress the characters of Scully and Mulder. It doesn't try to forget the passage of time, rather they have grown older naturally. They are not married, though live together, and I thought they acted like an old married couple - or maybe a divorced couple who love each other but can't really abide each other.

Mulder is a recluse, with an office in the house, still charting the paranormal. Scully is a Doctor at a Catholic Hospital. Mulder has still not given up looking for his sister, and both carry the baggage of losing their child.

An FBI agent is missing under unusual circumstances. There is a de-frocked Priest who has visions and Mulder is asked to help determine if he is genuine. He and Scully are drawn into the case when it becomes a one of serial killings; Scully against her better judgement. I won't say more about the plot.

It is quite gory at times. I actually thought Mulder might die at one point, (which never would happen in the middle of a TV series.) I also enjoyed the jokes, and I had forgotten how funny the X-Files actually was.

I would say that if you enjoyed the series, this is like a very good extended episode. Even if it is new to you, it is a good investigative thriller/ horror. There are some very good films out this Summer, so I would never place it on your must-see list. Certainly rent the DVD when it is released.

Re: The X-Files: I Want To Believe (2008)

I know this is a bit last month now, but I couldn't get past there being two positive reviews here.

I think I'm pretty forgiving on most movies (though that is of course a biased opinion), but this was honestly the worst thing I have ever seen. I can get past the fact that it was an extended episode; the _concept_ of the plot was decent. I can get past that its been a while since the end of the show and that Carter, Gillian and David will be a bit rusty.
But I can't forgive whoever approved that script: Why do we need to place deliberate, out of context references (explicitly pointed out as such) back to the TV show every second scene? Why did we need to carry on with Scully's hospital subplot?

I didn't expect something marvelous when I went to watch this, but I did think that in bringing the story back after half a decade they might have something to add. The Xfiles began with enthusiasm, I could almost believe; but they faltered somewhere and by the end I'm not even sure they wanted to believe in it themselves.
