Duchovny Eager For X-Files 2
SCIFI WIRE -- David Duchovny told the Associated Press that he's ready to jump back into The X-Files, reprising the role of Fox Mulder in a second feature film. "I think we're all kind of excited to go back and have a reunion, even though we haven't been apart for that long," Duchovny told the wire service.

Duchovny has been focusing on making movies since the 2001 TV season, when The X-Files ended its nine-season run on Fox. The first X-Files film was a 1998 box-office success, but no word has come down yet on when the second feature film will get off the ground, the AP reported.
Absolutely, nothing to do with the fact that his "[focus] on making movies since the 2001 TV season" has been in need of some very strong lenses recently!!

lol, well at least somebody hasnt completely forgotten about a second movie! I was beginning to think it would never happen, it still might not but *fingers crossed* was this a recent article?

BTW, GA didnt mention anything in her interview with Parkinson a couple of weeks ago, they mentioned the X-Files of course but didnt say a word about when the movie.

Yes, very recent, but it doesn't give any dates. GA will be on the London stage for, at least, six months. I wouldn't expect a film for a few years, but I do think they should make it earlier rather than sooner if they want it to be successful.

Dark Horizons reports that:
Quote:
The X-Files Movie: Gillian Anderson was the guest last week on BBC Radio 4's Desert Island Discs and 'Richard' tuned in with this report: "When asked by host Sue Lawley about the X-Files, Gillian Anderson seemed to break with her recent habit of trying to play down the show (indeed, she seemed slightly annoyed that Lawley's research was so bad that she had no idea that not only had Mulder and Scully become more than friends, they'd actually had a baby). Anderson then raised the future of the franchise and said that she would really like to do not just one but several films: she even talked enthusiastically about going back every couple of years to re-visit the character and really establishing the X-Files as an on-going cinematic concern. All in all, she seemed far more positive about the whole idea than she has in a very long while". Thanks to 'Whit'
Obviously, Sue Lawley isn't an X-Phile then, or she wouldn't ask such stupid questions.

Several films? Anyone think they will be popular enough for that to happen?

I think it really depends on what they do with the next one one whether there is enough interest for them to be able to do any more. I know a lot of people that were once fans of the show that had stopped watching by the time they finished it because it wasn't as much fun as it had been originally.

On some levels I agree with them on this. I sont know about the rest of you but I wasn't as interested in watching the show after a while and my favorite episodes all seem to be from seasons 1-6.

Chris Carter might even set the films in those seasons, it is a possiblity, and if he knows thats what we want then who says he wont give it to us, but we'll see. The idea was always to make a film franchise, and not just one more film, but that was back in the day when The X-Files was the thing to watch, back in the golden days maybe? I dunno, although i loved season 6 (and 5) and a lot of episodes from the earlier seasons, season 7 and 9 had some great moments and episodes too. Yes, the series became caught up in its own mytharc, yes it lost a little of its spark when DD up and left, but it still had everything i loved about it (except for the whole existence season 8, which i won't even go into it, because i may get violent).

A lot of the fans did stop watching (sadly) when DD left or at one time or another after season 6/5, but those fans won't be the people they are making the movie for, they'll be making it for the people who stuck with them and still gave a damn so maybe its a kind of reward is how i see it sometimes

That little Gillian Anderson interview gave me a little hope that the movie franchise will continue on, and not be left at one film

I didn't see the whole Parkinson interview, only about 10 minutes, but there are now rumours online regarding what GA said.

But, according to Dark Horizons via Scifi Wire:

SciFi Wire
-Files 2 In The Works?

Dark Horizons reported a rumor that a second X-Files movie might start by the end of the year. The site based its report on comments made by Gillian Anderson (Dana Scully) on the British talk show Parkinson.

Anderson reportedly told the show that she and David Duchovny (Fox Mulder) have signed on, as have Robert Patrick (John Doggett) and Annabeth Gish (Monica Reyes). She added that the film might be a prequel set before the events of the TV series.

The cast will also include Brian Thompson as the alien bounty hunter and Mitch Pileggi as Walter Skinner, the site reported.
I assume that all that is pure speculation then. Sammy O'Neill said she didn't mention 'when', and I'm quite sure she wouldn't know what the cast would be.

They had a bit of info on IMDB.com, but it was all taken down about a month ago.
This is on Yahoo!Movies:
Quote:
Release Date: TBA 2004 (possibly in the summer)

Distributor: 20th Century Fox

Release Date Notes:

6/11/00 - This movie will most likely be released in the summer of the year following the last season of the TV series. With a 9th season of the show possible for 2001-2002, this would suggest a release in 2003...? TVGuide.com reported in February, 1999 that Chris Carter said the delay between the finale and the movie could even be two years, which would imply 2004 (if 2001-2002 is the last season). (11/7/01) Variety confirms that the earliest we could see it is Christmas, 2003. (4/12/02) Chris Carter told Cinescape this week that the most likely year of release is now 2004.

Production Company: Ten Thirteen Productions (Chris Carter's company; primarily known for The X-Files)

Cast: David Duchovny (Agent Fox Mulder), Gillian Anderson (Agent Dana Scully); other cast not announced yet. It's quite possible that some of the TV show's other cast will also make some sort of appearance.

Director: Not announced yet.

New Cast Note:

7/21/00 - With David Duchovny only doing 11 episodes in the 2000-2001 season, Robert Patrick has been brought aboard as a new character. So, when this movie is eventually made, he may appear in it as well. (1/3/01) Annabeth Gish will also be joining the cast of the TV show as of 2/25/01 as another agent.

Screenwriter: Chris Carter and Frank Spotnitz (writing team of 1998's The X-Files)

Based Upon: This will be the second movie based upon the popular Fox show, The X-Files, that debuted in 1993, and will be entering its eighth season in 2000-2001. The first movie was released in 1998, and grossed $83.8 million (USA) for a total of over $180 million worldwide. (1/8/01) The TV show may yet have a 9th season, 2001-2002. (1/27/02) Yep, and it's also the last... the series ends this May.

Premise: Not much is currently known about the possible plot of this one. Like much about the show, there are rumors... but not much that's confirmed. Since there will be some time between the finale and the movie, we'll probably get a better idea of what the movie might be once the series is over. That's when you can expect Chris Carter and others to start thinking, planning, and talking about this next film... (11/7/01) Variety reports that the film will indeed focus on Mulder and Scully, even though Mulder (Duchovny) is no longer on the TV show. Also expect it to be a "stand alone" plot not tied in with the show's complex conspiracy theories (like the first film was).

Filming: Production is scheduled to start in 2003.

Genre: Science Fiction, Thriller

5/17/02 - Talking to TV Guide, Chris Carter has announced that filming is scheduled to begin in 2003 for a 2004 release, with a story that will stand alone from the storylines of the TV show's final episodes.
That's the most recent stuff I can find.

Duchovny: X-Files 2 On The Way

David Duchovny told the British Teletext Web site that a second X-Files movie is in the works. "We're all on the same page," Duchovny (Fox Mulder) told the site. "Gillian Anderson [Dana Scully] wants to do it. I want to do it. [The X-Files creator] Chris Carter, who would write and produce the film, wants to do it. And I believe Fox the studio wants to do it."

Duchovny added, "When you have the four major players in the enterprise wanting to do it, it will happen. It's just a matter of when. I hope it happens within the next year." The 43-year-old star quit the TV show before it was canceled, but said he was eager to play Mulder again. "I think it would be fun at this point, a few years removed, to get back into it and do it," he told the site.
Of course he could use the money too, his movie career never really happening.

Gillian Anderson has been busy.

Fox orders series but never makes them or cancels them after 11 episodes and shows them in a random order.

What has Chris Carter been doing since Millennium?

News straight from the top...

X-Files 2 Still In Talks

The X-Files creator Chris Carter told SFX magazine that he's still trying to get a second movie based on his classic TV series off the ground. "We are in negotiations right now," Carter told the magazine. "And because it's a sequel, there are peculiar and specific kinds of negotiations that are holding us up. I think that there's an appetite for it, but I think that it's got to be good. People won't just go and see anything. Whatever happens, I'm going to do something good that people will want to go and see regardless."

As for the sequel film's storyline, Carter said, "Not a mythology one, for sure!"
That sounds fairly certain then, only the timing is unsure.

It seems to be taking ages for them to decide about this film. By the time they do, some people will have forgotten all about the storylines etc.
