| Unknown Book... Hi. There's a book I read in 8th grade that I liked and would like to get, but don't remember the title, the author, or even what it was about. I remember details, sure, but not enough to run a wild goose chase. I want to get the book to read it again. If anyone has any idea I'd appreciate the help. It's not much, but here's what I remember. First of all I don't know if it was part of a series. It was a fantasy book whose main character was a teenage girl. She could either talk to animals or simply understand them. I think there was a part where she healed a bird (or it might have been another animal....) that was either dead or almost dead. There was also a part where she tried to listen.....magically, to her environment (I cannot recall the reason) but in doing so she thought that her heartbeat was clouding her hearing. She tried to lower the sound of her heartbeat without realizing that she was actually slowing/stopping her heart. She was then scolded by a man (her teacher/mentor maybe?) who explained that using that....magic/gift actually caused what it appeared to cause (or something along the lines). Sorry it's not very specific, however that second part is specific enough as to where anyone who's read the book (and remembers its name) and stumbles upon it will know exactly the book. Thanks! |

| Re: Unknown Book... Okay the book you're thinking of is one in a series by Tamora Pierce. It's called the Immortals quartet. I don't know which one of the four it is exactly but I know it's one of them because I love her books, I just havn't read them in awhile. Besides it all tends to blur together when I'm reading series. I'll reread the three I have and repost in the next few days and tell you which one it is. The night I posted this, just before posting this, I went to science fiction book club (I had an ad stuck inside one of my Newtype magazine, not advertising it XD) and I actually went through their lists of fiction/fantasy books to see if I could recall the title or book cover or anything else that might help. Actually, those books popped out and were the only one's that sounded similar to the one I remember, although I figured not enough. Then I found this forum and for the young adult reader section they listed authors including J.K. Rowling, Robin McKinley (for which I finished reading The Hero and the Crown that day (again) which was was made me search for the other book) and Tamora Pierce. Then I though, huh, maybe one of this authors wrote the book...and I searched for them. Again I was led to the same books, and now that I read your reply, I believe that it/they are probably the book(s) I want. (Even if it's not the book, I'll be sure to get them!). Thanks for the reply, and if you can confirm it, that'd be great! |

I LOVE those books, and was reading them recently... and knew what book you were talking about in the first three sentences... Specifically, you're talking about the first one, called Wild Magic. And the girls name is Veralidaine Sarrasri... |
