| Martha Jones (Freema Agyeman) Doctor's next assistant is named http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/entertainment/5146666.stm ![]() Newcomer Freema Agyeman is to take over from Billie Piper in the third series of Doctor Who, it has been revealed. Agyeman, 27, will play Martha Jones in the next run of the drama, due to start filming in Cardiff this summer. | I just read this on Hailing Frequencies. 'The Sun' newspaper actually announced it a few months ago. She will be playing a completely different character obviously, as Adeola just had her brain pulled out last week. I don't think there will be any reason given for them looking so alike, she cannot be another Time Lord, for instance. |

New Companion Announced Taken from Digital Spy (www.digitalspy.co.uk) xx Newcomer Freema Agyeman has been named as Billie Piper's replacement on Doctor Who. Agyeman will join as Martha Jones - described as "the perfect foil for the Doctor" - from the third series of the show, due to air early next year. "Auditioning with David in secret down in Cardiff was unbelievable, but I never in my wildest dreams thought I'd actually become the new companion," she said. "Billie rightfully built up an amazing fan base and she will be missed, but I hope the fans are willing to go on new adventures with me." Agyeman, a 27-year-old Londoner, got the part after starring as Adeola in episode 12 of the current series. "Watching her during filming confirmed what an exciting new talent she was, so under cover of darkness we called her back in to audition with David for the role of the new companion," said exec producer Russell T Davies. "David and Freema are terrific together, and we're delighted to have chosen her to join the Doctor for more adventures in time and space." He added: "Martha won't be featured in this year's Christmas special - we've got another surprise in store for that."

I suspect, like series such as Stargate SG-1 where the same actor reappears several seasons after previously appearing as a different character, they'll just pretend they've never been seen before and as if this is their first episode...

Re: New Companion Announced It's my pleasure SS! Yes, I'm rather pleased to see the back of Miss Piper, all that love business was getting in the way of real adventure imo. It started off so well but that whole "are they, aren't they?" rubbish drove me insane and I'm very very pleased that The Doctor didn't actually say "I love you", that would have ruined everything for me! xx

Re: New Companion Announced My wife was all "Why couldn't he have said it? We all know he did...GRRR!!!!..." etc... Looking forward to a whole new dynamic with Martha...Bit more like the classic companions.... I thought they were more like best mates in this series rather than potential Boyf/Gf...But that's just me...

Re: New Companion Announced i liked billie piper in the first series, but she was jsut a bit smug and giggly in the second, as if they'd given up on character developement and just gone for commic relief.

Re: New Companion Announced im glad billie has gone. i like jackie, but i was tired of them always being on earth and dealing with her and her dead husband! i new about this new woman ages ago, was in my tv guide. she was the same woman who died in the last two episodes (the first woman) so i hope they have a nontoo cheesy reason for it!

Re: New Companion Announced You know, if Freema brings her own personality to the show, the next series is going to be terrible- the interview with her on the One Show was, frankly, really embarrassing.
