To Self Publish or not to Self Publish, that is the question

Read your post Aurelio and thought I'd take you up on your suggestion.

Our publisher is StarPublish. They are not really self publish nor are they traditional.

We got our usual share of rejections for Waking God like most. I stumbled across Star and there was something I liked about them. We sent the MS and the owner actually read the book-cover to cover-Yes, you do pay for editing-But the editing was half what you would pay on the open market and we got a line-by- line edit back. It was very professional.

They are POD-but keep in mind, almost all books are now POD-even from the more traditional houses-it just means that they do not have to keep a big warehouse.

Just before we signed with Star, we received an offer from a more traditional publisher. We decided to go with Star. Why, because of the personal attention and constant communication.
Literally, in the first week we had over a dozen mails. She let us deal directly with the editor. Almost a day has not gone by without some form of communication.

They have award winner authors and some really good names at Star. They have their own writers group NUW (Not the Usual Way) which is now open to everyone. It is a freat support group filled with marketing ideas and good tips.

I am not trying to push them. All I am saying is that they are there for the writer, 7 days a week and they work for you, not against you. Our book indicates that this form of publishing is viable and with some work anything is possible. Our pre-publication reviews have been awesome.

You are right, many new, and many old famous authors have gone this route. The Biggies have gotten too Big and have too much control over what is being published. I would recommend that if you have a story you believe in, go for it. It takes work and diligence but if you want your voice to be heard, then do what it takes.-Stars site is linked on our web site for anyone that is interested. We have not had a single issue with the way they do business.

More can be said but I will see if this thread gets any response.
