Whedon: Expect Future Buffy TV

Joss Whedon, creator of Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Angel, told SCI FI Wire that he definitely plans to revisit the "Buffyverse" in a future, unspecified TV project. "I think it's realistic," Whedon said in an interview while promoting his upcoming SF movie, Serenity. "I like my chances. But it is absolutely still too amorphous for me to make any kind of announcement about it. I'm out there trying, and there's other people trying, to put it together. But until something falls in place, I really can't say."

Whedon is especially keen on doing a movie centering on the vampire character of Spike (James Marsters). "Let's say it's a good jumping-off point," he said. As for Marsters' reported comments that he is growing too old to play the eternally youthful former bloodsucker, Whedon said: "Well, we're working. We're trying. I know. ... James is in very good shape. Keep working out, James."

And James Marsters has said that after 5yrs from the end of his run on the Buffy-verse, he won't play Spike anymore b/c he thinks he'll be too old and vampires aren't supposed to age.

There's a peep every now and then about this, but I haven't seen anything recently.

Seems like Joss could use clever scriptwriting to explain Spike aging--maybe a hitherto unknown disease that strikes vampires, or, hmm, a magical amulet that appears mysteriously in the mail that Harmony hands to . . . oh, wait . . .

Re: Future Buffy TV and Film

I'm really not sure how I'd feel about a film, especially now Spike's dust as it were!

I don't think it'd be a good idea although maybe a Willow spin-off show would be good, I'm a big fan of Willow, not so keen on Kennedy though so....

Mind you, the spin-off's been done with Angel so not sure it's such a good thing afterall.

Excuse my ramblings

Re: Future Buffy TV and Film

I doubt we will ever see anything TV related, specifically not serialized. Joss was totally disenfranchised with the way the TV folks screwed around with his shows. This included not knowing if the show would continues, getting dumped from WB and worst, their complete and utter failure to properly air Firefly.

He seems intent to only work on individual projects where he has complete control, which could lend itself to some kind of TV movie or major picture. If it were TV movie, it would most likely not be directed by him but instead by one of his many collaborators.

Re: Future Buffy TV and Film

Spike isn't dust - well, he is at the end of Buffy, but Angel has more Spike.

There actually was a spin-off idea for Spike and Faith but Eliza got the "Tru Calling" gig and killed that idea.

It's been a couple years, so I'm kinda with Crisspin on this - we probably won't see anything beyond the comic book. Joss also has a habit of spreading himself too thin - he tries to do too much at one time and it bogs him down and he's not focused enough to keep the story as sharp as it should be.

I always thought Spike was insanely cool.

And who couldn't love Faith?

It's highly doubtful that Dushku is up for a reprise of Faith, but I think Marsters could be conned into a Spike project. He's not THAT old!

Definitly more Giles , they really need to make a movie or a miniseries or something so we can see Giles , I mean the whole cast again with lots of Giles

Giles rocks! I love Anthony Head, he's just sooo cool.

Luckily for me, I had a good dosage of him in an episode of the recent Doctor Who series!

Giles really rocks! I love Tony Head too!!!
Giles is my first fav caractere in Buffy. After, it's Jenny and after, it's Willow.

Well, that could be nice to see something more, like a 1 or 2 hours movie about Spike or Willow or even Giles. That would be great!

But I'm not hoping so much...but there's still hope...

Re: Future Buffy TV and Film

There was supposed to be a 'Ripper' show too - filmed in the UK - dunno what ever became of that.

I think a lot of this falls into Joss being a huge multi-tasker with ADD - the guy just can't focus long enough b/c he's got tons of ideas.

Currently - he's writing Astonishing X-Men tho - which is totally cool (his artist is slow as snot tho) - and he may do the Ripper thing, but I think the Spike bit's gone.

Personally - I think if they're gonna do more Buffy-verse stuff, they should almost do a 'start from scratch' bit or play up for putting "Fray" on screen somehow.

I would love to see a Ripper show even though I am sure ASH wouldn't be in it
