Unhappy can't remeber title or author of book

The movie The Island is semi based on this book that I can't remember the title or author of. In the book these people are being conditioned since they were born. A recording loops forever every time they go to sleep. They were in groups such as Delta, Beta, etc. One of the character's name is Lena. Relationship-wise no one belongs to one certain person, you can "have" whoever you want there isn't an issue of who is whose boyfriend or girlfriend. Someone please help, I can't sleep thinking of the book!

According to IMDB, Caspian Tredwell-Owen is the only credit for story and screenplay, but using Google I found a Hollywood Reporter article that compares it to 'Never Let Me Go' by Kazuo Ishiguro. From the reviews of the film, he probably wouldn't want any credit.

Never seen the film either and like Dave I did the trawl too. Though I missed the reference to Never Let Me Go, but have found one suggesting links with Crichton's Coma.

There is a lot of mention of Huxley's Brave New World as well, though I don't think that works too well.

Equally there are references to hundreds of other books and films too. The most telling being MST's The Colonus Horror.

So I suspect there is no single book to reference, though every Sci/Fi writer since HG Wells has had a crack at a simillar concept
