Can't remember a book title... Anyone remember who wrote (or the title of) a book, which takes place in an orbital habitat, with the main character who builds tiny ship models when he's not investigating crimes? I'm just stumped....

Welcome Croussi. You aren't giving us a huge amount to go on in your quest. The only one I can think of at present is The Puppeteer, which I think was by Koontz. Though the chap with the toys was not the good guy and I suspect the book might be a tad old?

Sorry about the lack of detail. Let's see.... the main character built a series of almost microscopic models of ships that had been sunk in disasters. He had a shop off the main "square" on some public level of the orbital habitat. He also studied some martial arts in his spare time. Someone had been killed by being mashed in a machine that should have been very difficult to do (due to interlocks). The girlfriend suspected murder, although the official cause of death was suicide. It turns out that the manager of the station was in cahoots with someone that planted chips that would burn out a certain brand of computer at a certain time, driving the stock down, and through some manipulations, they would make alot of money. The book ends with a fight down in the lower (sewage) levels of the station, between the station manager (who had a rebuilt Thompson sub-machine gun, and also knew martial arts) and the hero. The hero wins. The habitat was in Earth orbit, possibly at one of the Lagrangian points. That's about all I can remember. I can't remember the characters' names, the author, the title, or the publisher....it was a book published within the last 10 years, maybe the last 5 years. croussi
