Slightly off topic - (Mission Impossible 3) This was written and directed by JJ Abrams. Is anyone bothered that the "Rabbit's Foot" was never explained? I don't want to spoil that film, but the "rabbit's foot" is irrelevant to the plot. The "Rabbit's Foot" is JJ Abrams "McGuffin" or "Red Herring". A "Red Herring" is a fallacy in which an irrelevant topic is presented in order to divert attention from the original issue. Alfred Hitchcock is credited with the invention of the "McGuffin". The "McGuffin" is a plot device or plot element that catches the viewer’s attention or drives the plot. It is generally something that every character is concerned with. "The McGuffin" is essentially something that the entire story is built around and yet has no real relevance. The "Rabbit's Foot" is supposedly a a secret weapon that could presumably command a huge sum from a foreign powerI got to thinking that it is exactly the same as the way he writes 'Lost'. We'll discover in the end that all these things are just "Red Herrings", "McGuffins" and "Rabbit's Feet". | |

Oooh I like it Dave! Although as you say with the 'foot' I'l be a bit disapointed if a lot of the questions remain unanswered or are completely irrelevant. Particularly if they go unanswered! Did anyone find the last episode a bit plodding? Nothing much seemed to happen really.

Re: Lost Is everyone up to the episode when Michael returns? Spoiler:And then kills two people, lets Henry go, and shoots himself. Then in the following episode the parts with Mr Eko and Locke. I'm really getting confused now. Spoiler:Michael can only be doing it to get Walt back, so everything he has said about the Others is false. And are we ever going to find out Libby's back-story now (she was in the same asylum as Hurley)? And why is Locke "one of the good ones" (Henry said so)? Are they going to add new characters in Season 3?

Re: Lost I skipped over that, too much information. Thanks anyway though! There is a new [ SPOILER] [ /SPOILER] tag if you would like to edit it for others who don't wish to see.

Re: Lost I'm really just posting to bump this thread to the top. The Season 3 posts have all been split away into a new thread, so this thread is left for UK viewers and others who have only seen up to the end of Season 2. Speculation is fine, but please no spoilers for Season 3 in this thread. Anyway, someone want to discuss the last episode - wasn't there a lot of new weird stuff in that during the boat journey - the statue with the three toes???
