Serenity Set about six months after the last events seen on the TV show. Whedon says, "The movie is bigger, more epic than anything you can do in a series."

Core Worlds

Do you think that we will get to see the core worlds in the film?

They have only been mentioned very briefly, but they are much more technically advanced than the outer rim planets. Even more than Ariel. Inara seemed to suggest that Ariel was 'lovely' but not on a par from her home world.

There are two core worlds. Fox used to have a website which they removed, but it got mirrored by Fireflyfans.net. The following information comes from there:

Quote:
Joss Whedon talks briefly about the core, he says: "There is two major planets in the core.. erm, the central planets are Sihnon which is basically China and Londinum which is basically America."
Though Londinium sounds more British than American:
Quote:
KAYLEE: I'd sure love to find a brand new compression coil for the steamer.

MAL: And I'd like to be king of all Londinum and wear a shiny hat.

Given this throw-away line in the Serenity Pilot, it would appear the Londinum is a planet ruled by a monarchy.
And as regards Sihnon:
Quote:
INARA: Sihnon isn't that different from this planet. More crowded, obviously, and I guess more complicated. The great city itself is... pictures can't capture it. It's like an ocean of light.

The jewel of the Core worlds, Sihnon is described in such a way as to imply that it far surpasses the sophistication and technology level of any of the planets we see during the show.
Anyone have any other infomation or quotes?

There is a new book out which I had a quick flick through in a shop today but didn't buy: Finding Serenity : Anti-Heroes, Lost Shepherds and Space Hookers in Joss Whedon's Firefly.

Has anyone read it?

This article tries to explain the science behind having so many inhabitable worlds in the Serenity/Firefly universe.

If he had watched the show more carefully, then he would know that that many of the places visited are terraformed moons, and that the technology is not 1880's but well into the future. They have just endured a major interstellar war and Serenity keeps itself to the outer rim of inhabited space, that is the reason they are backward. Which is exactly why I want to see a Core world. I want to see what 'magics' they possess there.

The rest of the article is science fact. The Titus-Bode law is real.
