Re: Anthem for the Year 2000....and 4. Mmmm...I don't know an incredibly huge amount, but I am personally a big fan of Midnight Oil... A little old (80's) but they had alot of potential, except for the fact they ried to make all of their songs political, which deosn't work. U2 had to rewrtite Vertigo. It was originally a political song and it sucked, so they rewrote it.

Re: Yeah I know I sound a touch Patriotic but... yeah Aussie music is alright... it's better than it used to be anyway. Everyone, world wide, should keep an ear out for Delta Goodrem. the girls got skills! she wlll dominate the earth in a couple of years! she's the only Aussie pop i like, but some of the rock is ok. Old school Powderfinger was good, not a huge fan of the new stuff though. and every Aussie, whether they admit it or not inherently loves a bit of Chisel and ACDC!! Killing Heidi are getting better with age.. umm that's all i can think of right now.. but my sisters would kill me if i didn't add that the Cat Empire rock. not really my kind of thing, but they love them...

Re: Yeah I know I sound a touch Patriotic but... I go inverse on Heidi and put a vote in for Missy higgins over Delta. She had one or two alright song, but though she's inherent skills she's squandering it in tripe.

Re: Yeah I know I sound a touch Patriotic but... blah i'm so not a Missy fan! i hate that accent she sings in... and i just don't like that folksy pop thing she does. Delta is incredible. and don't forget, she's still only a baby, give her like 7 years and see what she turns into. she has more talent in her little finger than anyone else we have to offer.... except Casey Donovan. go Casey!! *sits back and waits for flaming...*

Re: Yeah I know I sound a touch Patriotic but... I've just about worn out my copy of Fingerprints: Powderfingers best of album. Still listen to the Hunters and collectors, they were a great band especially live. Crowded House were good as well, though maybe they're kiwi? pretty sure the Finn Brothers were anyway. Most Aussie pubs in Europe seem to go a bit mad when Khe San is played (Cold Chisel).

Re: Yeah I know I sound a touch Patriotic but... yeah Crowded House were definately kiwi, on that note actually its sad that you mention them as Paul hester the drummer died yesterday I think. It seems like it was suicide. I don't know its still not cool either way. I love Crowded House, my Mum got me into them (yes she is a kiwi ).Rest in peace Paul Hester.

Re: Yeah I know I sound a touch Patriotic but... I haven't listened too attentively whenever aussie music has been played around me, but... I do know Midnight Oil, and I'll congratulate you with them Within a couple of weeks, I will be in possession of all of their albums, and that's truly a treasure! Political rockers who actually stand up for the stuff, not just sing about it! You wouldn't read about it.

Re: Yeah I know I sound a touch Patriotic but... Haha. I can't believe someone mentioned Ratcat. I'll dust off my signed copy of Tingles and give it a listen in their honour. I really miss the Sydney music scene. The scene for up and coming bands is so much better in Oz than in the UK. It just seems to be so all or nothing here. Bands are either nothing or massive. In Australia there just seemed to be a lot more opportunity to see bands who were on their way up. I think one massive thing to the advantage of Australian bands are the laws regarding support acts. I'm not sure if it's still the same, but in the past support for foreign bands had to be local. If the band brought their own support, you had to have two local bands etc. I was exposed to a lot of music that way. And with that I'll just say: Spiderbait, You Am I, Hunters and Collectors, The Hummingbirds, Smudge, The Shout Brothers, The Falling Joys, The Go Betweens, The Church, Midnight Oil, Chris Knox (he's a Kiwi though), The Saints, Radio Birdman, Celibate Rifles, AC/DC, Nick Cave, Divynals, Regurgitator, Tumbleweeds, Front End Loader, Frente, The Hoodoo Gurus, Powderfinger and yes, I admit it... Ratcat Just went through my CD collection ![]()

Re: Yeah I know I sound a touch Patriotic but... AC/DC - can't get enough of their music ! ![]() Still there's a couple of news items here you might want to check out - FAULT - has just been crowned the next big thing in Western Australia, singing 'intense rock songs'. MOTORACE - from Melbourne has a new album out titled 'Animal'.
