Wookiees in Ep III

There are obviously going to be Wookiees in Ep III, and from the rumours I've seen, lots of Wookies.

There are Wookiee voices in the trailer, and it is mentioned on StarWars.com. I also read this from a Homing Beacon (star wars newsletter)

Quote:
Finally, the Wookiee homeworld will be given the movie treatment in Episode III. "It's a tropical, but cool planet," describes Concept Design Supervisor Ryan Church. "The only real directive we got from George is that they live in giant trees."

The end result will be a single city on Kashyyyk that straddles several massive trees. Though other published sources have explored the thickest areas of jungle canopy, Episode III's location is on the shore of a tree-lined lagoon, offering greater visual dynamics and story potential.

In Episode III, Kashyyyk will be at war, and as such, the Art Department needed to develop Wookiee instruments of warfare. "We wanted it to look distinct from what the rest of the cultures in the Star Wars universe use," says Church. "Feng Zhu did a lot of these technical illustrations, and came up with a very unique aesthetic. I wanted to come up with a type of vehicle that implied that only a Wookiee could handle it. Like they took some kind of technology that's out there, and they commandeered it and modified it for their own use."
This sounds like one of the most interesting parts of the film to me.
Does anyone know any more?

Also Starwars.com has a discussion about how the Wookiees will be understood (Luke did not understand Chewie in Ep IV - obviously Han and Ben spoke fluent Wookiee) with the possibility of subtitles being used.

What do you think of that as an idea?

Just a question about Chewie...

Since his action figure features among the Episode III characters and his picture is on the 'Wookiees' poster that is now available, he obviously appears in Episode III on Kashyyyk.

How is that possible? He hasn't aged in 20 years. Do Wookiees live an incredibly long time?

edit: Peter Mayhew told Scifi Wire: [His] Chewbacca costume in Episode III is a "younger" Wookie, so his fur will be lighter.

Episode III Has New Chewie

Peter Mayhew, who returns to the Star Wars saga as the Wookiee Chewbacca in Episode III, told SCI FI Wire that he will look slightly different from his incarnations in previous installments. "Chewie is younger in Episode III, so it meant they had to make a different costume, because Chewie is now lighter-colored," Mayhew said in an interview. "He's like a puppy that is one color and changes as he gets older."

Mayhew played the furry co-pilot in the original Star Wars trilogy and once again puts on the suit for the last prequel, Star Wars: Episode III—Revenge of the Sith. "The actual costume itself was no different, except we've got a 'cool suit' running through it now, so that's wonderful," Mayhew said. "But once I get the costume on, that character comes out. There are no two ways about it. Chewie is one of those characters that never said a line throughout the whole of the three movies, and this one just finishes that off nicely. Chewie is a rock star anyway. He's one of those characters that you either love him or hate him, and most people love him."

A frequent Star Wars convention guest around the world, Mayhew said that fans still ask about the legendarily bad '70s television program, Star Wars Holiday Special, that revolved around Chewbacca and his family. "No matter where it is, someone will come up and say, 'Holiday Special,'” Mayhew said with a laugh. "I usually blow it over and say it was something we did because we could do it. The mere fact that George [Lucas] doesn't like it is right, and for me it was just another job. Maybe if George had just put it out, probably all the fans would have forgotten about it. But George is the governor, and we do what George wants. If he wants to put us in a dashiki, it's up to him, and we will do whatever he wants and be glad of it!"
