Shannara Series

Has anyone read the Shannara series? I thought it was pretty awesome. Although the first 3 books were semi repeats, they are quick and fun to read.

Hi Aes Sedai, and welcome to the forums.

Shannara - that's the Terry Brooks release, yes?

I've read all some of the books but didn't realise there were graphic versions, where can you get hold of them? If thats what you meant otherwise I'm just being dumb

Whopps - I didn;t notice - and that's probably why no one else has replied to this topic. I'll move it to the main books area and leave a redirect so you can find this thread again.

And maybe get some more responses - I've heard a few things about Terry Brooks, but never read his work.

Re: Shannara Series

Hi Aes Sedai, I read the Shannara books. I enjoyed them I guess, but to me they seemed too close to LOTR, like an unconscious immitation.
I think I might stop here before I get nasty
Sorry to all the Shannara fans, I have an arrogant, snobbish streak in me...

Re: Shannara Series

I've read them all and while there are some similarities to LOTR, the characters are more diverse and well rounded and the story has been expanded to include unique bits that definitely have no similarities to LOTR (ie; airships). I've been enjoying the latest portion of the series, the Jerle Shannara ones and just noticed a new one out. I'll have to see if my library will have a copy when they open back up (which is hopefully soon, I'll run out of books to read once I get through my latest Amazon order ).

Re: Shannara Series

I've read the first 2 series, (the original 3 books and the Heritage of Shannara) and while I enjoyed them in places I did find them very hard going in others; for example most of the Druid of Shannara!

And they always seamed to end just as I’m getting most involved, like in the Sword of Shannara when the Pannamon Creel returns, I thought that was going to lead on to a really exciting set of events but it didn’t!

Anyway I’ve heard that as the series progress they keep getting better and better so I plan to finish them some time in the future

Re: Shannara Series

Hi Aes Sedai, I too have read the original Shannara series and some of the second series. I enjoyed them, but not enough to follow them right through to the end and not enough to reread them, which is often a good indication of how much I enjoy a book. Still, I did enjoy another of Terry Brooks' titles - Have you read 'Magic Kingdom for Sale - Sold!'? I think you might enjoy that.

Re: Shannara Series

im in the process of going through Wheel of Time right now. I plan on finishing the series before going elsewhere. But i will definitly look into it. Im only on the first book in the WoT series(The Eye of the World) and am currently traveling through the Ways (scary).. but yeah shannara is good but they build you up then put you down kind of quick. All in all im a bigger fan of WoT thus far. *Sidenote* have you all read the Dark Elf Trilogy by RA Salvatore. Id say that was a good read as well. Any one else? Cheers!

I adored Magic Kingdom for Sale - Sold!. I found it to be intelligent, and silly at the same time. I love when authors use humor to point out stuff that people should be ashamed of, we tend to take the criticism better that way and think about it more.

I read the original Shannara series several times. The second set don't seem to be good enough for me to read twice but they've got me hooked enough to continue the series. As a matter of fact I'm waiting to see if my library (if the darned storms would stop and let the poor thing re-open) will have a copy of the latest.
