| Re: picture of the day! On BBC site: The masked tityra is one of the species which has just sprung a scientific surprise. Researchers found animals and birds in temperate zones evolve faster than those in the tropics. Their suggestion is that extinctions happen more often in temperate regions where there is less species diversity. |

| Re: picture of the day! The Hubble Space Telescope documents an outburst, called a light echo, from the red giant V838 Monocerotis. The star exploded in 2002, producing a burst of intense light which showed up surrounding clouds of dust. But unlike a nova, it did not lose its outer layers, which is highly unusual. | Re: picture of the day! There is a movie about Hubble images - with nice background music. Sorry, but I just can't recall what the actual name is. Anyway, if you like this image you should look up this movie. |
