Hmmm. Seems to me... somebody's got a great marketing idea there... actually, two. Can you imagine... Fluthy Cthulhu backpacks, lunchboxes, etc., for the kiddos... along with Mr. Cthulhu-Head for kids of all ages....

No fear of drowning but I wouldn't think there would be too much skin left down the front of the body!

On BBC site:
The masked tityra is one of the species which has just sprung a scientific surprise. Researchers found animals and birds in temperate zones evolve faster than those in the tropics. Their suggestion is that extinctions happen more often in temperate regions where there is less species diversity.

Good ones, Rosemary and Allegra! I imagine swimming up the road would get you a couple of funny looks, and that bird looks a bit odd with that red eyering!

Re: picture of the day!

The Hubble Space Telescope documents an outburst, called a light echo, from the red giant V838 Monocerotis. The star exploded in 2002, producing a burst of intense light which showed up surrounding clouds of dust. But unlike a nova, it did not lose its outer layers, which is highly unusual. Re: picture of the day!

Oh, that is so beautiful! Such breathtaking things have come and are coming from the Hubble.... This sort of thing does bring back that sense of wonder...

Thanks, Allegra!

We have no idea of the beauty in the skies above us. What a stunning picture.

Re: picture of the day!

There is a movie about Hubble images - with nice background music. Sorry, but I just can't recall what the actual name is. Anyway, if you like this image you should look up this movie.
