Re: picture of the day!

I can see the circles** and they are circular, but there are hints of other, slightly more elongated, ellipses; one of them has the white X at its centre.

** - As a circle is a special case of an ellipse, I can see 16 circular ellpses, 9 complete elongated ellipses and the tops or bottoms of another 6 elongated ellipses, giving a total of 31 .

Re: picture of the day!

How did you do that Major Ursa ??
Up here in the thread your message was without numbers for the different geometrical figures, but in the mail I got with (same ??) message the numbers were included.
How, oh tell me how …………

Even I hate to disappoint such a clever guy as yourself, I have to draw the attention to the fact that in a circle the radius is always the same, whereas in an ellipse it varies.
You’re absolutely right in the number of circles, but the ellipses …………………
I cannot even find them, not even the one you say around the middle cross - unless – unless …do your ellipses have straight sides, or other customerized peculiarities ??
Sorry, shouldn’t joke about the holy geometry J
A more constructive question would be, how big are they compared to the circles ??
They are bigger, right ?? – app. 1/3 bigger ??
Then I think I located them, even they to me are more like hexagones.
(tomorrow I’ll give you another visual challege ……)

Alchemyst: awesome volcanoes - extremely attractive colour :-)

Re: picture of the day!

choosing to color one's text white is a common way to "spoiler" information. As those who wish to see it may, by the convenience of highlighting the text, and those who wish to remain in ignorance my do so, provided they can refrain from highlighting as well.

I'm still trying to get over the startling discovery that my left eye is crocked... (I thought crossing my eyes would reveal the circles, but was too startled that one of the depictions was rotating itself to contue trying to see or count.

Is anyone else's eye(s) crocked?? please tell me i'm not the only one, its not a super power i wish to add to my already embarrassingly long list.

Anivid, most people over here perfer nice and pleasent things or images. This particular airport is in a remote area and covered in strange symbolism.

I don't know what it all means either, but when someone contracts an ancient statue like Anubis and negative images on the walls, it has got to mean something.

Like the holiest place in Rome for example, why would they go through the trouble to put a real ancient obelisk with pagan symbols on it right in the center of Vatican City?

Denver, Colorado Airport's Anubis statue.

You can see the horse statue in the background on the right.

Re: picture of the day!

Ours - that’s French for Ursa
Hope helped me spilling the beans, but still I don’t understand how the message, the system sent down to my PC (with NO whitening out of numbers) can be different from the original message up in the thread (whitening out of numbers) – can you understand that ??
Well, even the peers now know how many circles, they still have to figure out WHERE they can be found, don’t they ??

Starbeast, don’t know about your airport theme overthere, may be a paraphrase on something ??
The government isn’t especially popular for the time being, is it ??

But the ancient obelisk in the Vatican is to me a tribute to the old knowledges on which the religion christianity is build.
As you may know (-or not ), the christianity is a synchretisme, constructed during 7 synodes/church meetings where both the clerical authorities and the secular ones from that time were present.
Nothing under the sun is new – everything recycled – sometimes in new disguises, but nevertheless.
The different fashions decide what to omit, what to emphasize, and what to adopt and re-baptize.

I didn't realise the email contained the message, but then I've never set the thread flag that contacts us when a thread is updated.

I simply use the text colour closest to the background: third from the left at the bottom of the choices. Now it so happens that there are commands for this [ spoiler ] and [ /spoiler ] (without the spaces, obviously), but they make text white: example. Does the text between these commands also appear in the email?

The definition of an ellipse is "a plane curve that results from the intersection of a cone by a plane in a way that produces a closed curve". Where the intersection is at right angles to the cone's access, the ellipse is a circle. See a diagram here.

Those ellipses are optical illusions. But so are the circles: the variously shaded bars that make up the illusion have squared-off ends: our brains create the perception that the boundary of each "circle" is a closed arc, rather than a series of lines joined at right angles.

So in answer to the original question, it would be perfectly valid to say that one can see no ellipses and no circles. (Indeed, if the question had been "how many circles are there?" rather than "how many circles cane we see?" the only right answer would be that they're are none at all.)

Excerpt from my mail:
"...I can see 16 circular ellpses, 9 complete elongated ellipses and the tops or bottoms of another 6 elongated ellipses, giving a total of 31 ."
- no sign of spoilers or colours :-)

I better try out your recipe:

- as well as intersection at the top gives a point :-)
hm, didn't seem to hit the right colour,
I'll try another :-)

The visual perception is based on the theory of the Gestalt, where we inter- and extrapolate from what we've got - to something known.

Here's something different eye-fun.
Hopefully it'll get crock-eye to spin, whatever crock-eye is, not cross-eye, no ??
Enjoy :-)

That's for sure. I never vote, no point. Protests do little good. Whistle Blowers who expose corruption are silenced. Etc. etc. etc.

It just seems out of place to me. In the Islamic faith, they removed all pagan images, but of course, that's a different belief.

Wars decides a lot of that too.

Anyway, time for another animal photo.

Didn’t the guide/brochures tell about WHY it was there ??
Didn’t know that about the islamics, but they’re not alone in that habit

Wars ?? – are you thinking about « the spoils belong to the Victor », physical objects ?? – or may be the bending of the history in the favor of the victor ??

From time to time we also GET something, as e.g. the Nag Hammadi documents.

The bear looks like he's on a coin operated ride. Polar bears do appear gentle, but they will eat you if they get a hold of you.

Speaking of getting a hold of things and eating them.

Re: picture of the day!

Aren’t they just cute ??
The finger monkey is the tiniest living primate in the world and are also known by the names "pocket monkey"and "tiny lion". These primates belong to the family Callitrichidae, species Cebuella and genus C. pygmaea. They are native to rain-forests of Brazil, Peru, Bolivia, Ecuador and Colombia. (Source: Buzzle)
