That's interesting. I just assumed that the Northern California typesetter needed an inch of filler and thought it was would be a good joke.

I scan the obits in this paper daily. (some days, to make sure I'm not in it)

This was the sole diversion from the current and serious, ever.

I thought it was a missle . However, old movie car stunts are definately more impressive than CGI.

I suppose it could be a missile. But I was judging by the the area which I took to be Cape Canaveral. I've never been there, so it could be by the South China Sea, for all I know.

It certainly looks like Cape Canaveral (Kennedy Space Center?) from what I've seen of the aerial shots. In the bottom right corner, that looks to be the Vehicle Assembly Building.

So, yes, it looks like a shuttle launch. Lots of good photos on there.

They've even got a picture of Yuri Gagarin's launch.
