Review of Exile's Return by Raymond E Feist...

I have to admit that when I heard that this book was being published I rushed onto Amazon and booked it straight away... I've never been disappointed with any of the previous books... The story and the atmosphere and the narrative have kept me spellbound for hours at a time - sometimes to the annoyance of other people!!!

When this book arrived on my doorstep, I stopped all other reading to concentrate on this new part of the ongoing saga - THE CONCLAVE OF SHADOWS!!! Ooooo!!!

It revolves around Kaspar, the former Duke of Olasko... Who was a little tyranical in his ruling of his lands and those under his dominion!!! To the point where the Conclave of Shadows, using their agent Talwin Hawkins (though his real name is Talon of the Silver Hawk - thought to have been the last of his people) depose him...

After Kaspar is deposed, he is exiled to the continent of Novindus to face whatever perils the gods see fit to bestow upon him...

The book deals with his trials and tribulations as he tries to stay alive and find a way to travel back home, and take vengence upon those resposible for his predicament!!!

The story and narrative are upto Feist's usual standard... Fast paced and full of the grandeur I've come to expect from his writing...

My only bugbear with this book is - I felt there was something missing... I can't put my finger on it, but it lacked something - maybe a kind of conclusion to it or a climax... It felt like an extension of the previous books in the series, as the Conclave of Shadows recruits more people in the hopes of stopping the God of Evil and his minions...

It gets a 7/10 from me, whereas previous books always got a 9-10/10...

Weird thought - you said Kaspar was tyrannical. Is a dictator therefore really the type of protagonist we want to root for? After all, if he's claiming vengeance on the very people who stopped him being such a noggin in the first place...

What part did I miss?

He appears to be on the road to self discovery and maybe redemption, so as far as I can tell so far but I am only half way through.
