A virtual reality training scenario goes terribly wrong in the upcoming episode "Avatar," director Martin Wood told GateWorld. The episode is currently filming on the standing S.G.C. sets in Vancouver, B.C., and will air early in Season Eight -- possibly as the fourth episode of the season, following "Lockdown."

"It's a VR game," Wood explains. "They're using the chairs from 'The Gamekeeper.' And now we're back in those chairs and we've modified them, and they are allowing us to program our own VR game to check out how certain scenarios can be played out. In this case, Teal'c gets trapped in a scenario of his own making because he never gives up and the game is playing until he gives up -- and it's not going to happen. It's a very cool episode."

Teal'c and SG-1 are trapped by alien VR chairs in Season Two's "The Gamekeeper."
What is the combat scenario? Details are still sketchy, but beware of the possible infiltration of the S.G.C. by Anubis' left-over super-soldiers. When Teal'c becomes trapped in the simulation, Daniel Jackson must go into the game to try and save him.

"'Avatar' repeats and repeats and repeats and repeats, and looks a little bit like 'Groundhog Day' or 'Window of Opportunity,'" Wood said. "But it has a twist to it in that it completely resets brand new every time. So it's not like we just start again; Teal'c goes through and resets his game every time he gets killed. But there are subtle differences because the game is adapting to him."
Thanx to Gateworld for the info for more info look to www.gateworld.net

I hope this isn’t a tired cliché like the super soldiers were.

Maybe it isn't since the director (as stated above) thinks
"It's a very cool episode."

Another good Season 8 episode. All of SG-1 has enough screen time to really shine (I loved the "I'll do it" part when SG-1 all volunteered to save Teal'c at once), the episode was very well-written and there was plenty of cool action. I was a little un-convinced that Teal'c gave up so quickly, but there might have been simulations we didn't see...and EVERYBODY would give up and react the way Teal'c did eventually. It would just take Teal'c about twice as long as your average soldier. Other than that, it was a pretty good episode. I think I will rate it Excellent.

Thumbs up

It was a great episode although it was a kind of loop episode, I'm not too charm with this type of episode because it comes a time when I'm really bored of the repetitions. But they do a good work bringing something different. Not my favorite one but it doesn't was so catastrophic.

I really enjoy when Teal'c kills Daniel until he came explain to Teal'c that he is real like him.

We had some RL emergency tonight at home with our neighbours, so my son watched this before I did. I'm not a big fan of 'shoot-them-up' playstation games, so when he came and told me that it was a "really exciting" episode, I wasn't very hopeful. But it grew on me...

Exactly, it became more like a time travel story -- 'Conundrum' Star Trek the Next Generation, or 'Groundhog Day' -- and that made it more appealing to me, plus the stand-off between Jack, Sam, Daniel and Teal'c -- how else could you design that scenario within the show?

No, i think we gave up just when he should have, aftera ll he knows it's only a game. If he had let if go on any longer than that because of his pride, it would have been silly. I was half expecting this to be the case when Sam and Daniel started talking about his likelihood of quitting. I'm glad to say i was pleasantly surprised.

Dr Lee trying to backtrack after ahving told Jack he could always make the game easier for him was actually laugh out loud. And ofcourse liked the "i'll go" bit. Then they choose Daniel because he has the least experience!

Also glad they replaced Dr Brightman with Dr Carmicheal.

Interesting concept, but unoriginal when it came down to Tealcs persona causing the problem.

Oh and Im getting tired of watching them use the P9 rifle as a sodding pistol.

Hold it with 2 hands man!!!!

I think this episode worked better than I expected.
I enjoyed it, but it will be on my don't-need-to-see-it-again list.
It was to repetative to watch again.
