St Valentines Day Tis the day where, by tradition, young ladies may propose to their errant beaus, expect annonymous love letters and romantic gifts and a host of other little customs to pin down their perfect partner. Aah, Ain't that nice ![]() And the chaps hide in the pub. Which ain't so nice So who wants to admit to their little St Valentines foibles. Are there still some romantics out there? Personally. I bought my wife a fur coat once, A Donkey Jacket from Army and Navy Stores

OK - this is the first Valentine's day with the new boyfriend, I'm not a dead romantic girlie, don't go in for all those scented candles etc - but he thought it would be nice so I said go ahead. He got me a cheeky, but sweet card which stood on the mantlepiece (same mantlepiece with two dinky tealight candles on) oh yes, you know whats coming dont ya ! I didn't realise I'd brushed the card over till I could smell burning - ran back to the living room to see the card in flames !!!! So, now he is telling everyone, that he bought his girlfriend a lovely valentines card and she set fire to it !!!

Ok, I'll fess up, (beat this one). The last time I did Valentines Day was back in the 70s when all my friends were getting flowers and things from their spouses and friends and so I went out and got some flowers for myself and said my husband bought them. When he got home he said if he wanted me to have flowers, he would have gotten them for me and threw them out the door into the yard. Not again ![]() Come on, can’t someone come up with a good one? I think Ray’s is the sweetest so far. It’s not the quality but the thought behind it!

I agree with Status. Surely there must be a romantic chap out there somewhere, or perhpas the ladies don't like receiving little tokens anymore? I have done better than the donkey jacket too, but for tactical reasons. I once had a very young, attractive, nervous and consequently lonely WRAF clerk on my flight. So I dropped her an annonymous Valentines card complete with original verse (by yours truely). It took her sergeant a week to work out who did it and I ended in hot water, but it did the trick. The WRAF clerk spent a fortnight trying to find the source and she married one of my lineys a year later.

For a week before Valentine's day, my son(who is 5) wouldn't let me look through his backpack. He would secret away some papers before he let me look at what he did for the day at school. On Valentines day I got a stack of papers with hearts and flowers drawn on them and on one he had written "I luv Mom" He's such a sweet boy  :blpaw:

| Wherever I Am, I'm There | I consider St Valentines Day to be a huge rip-off and my wife agrees. All the restaurants are fully booked, flowers suddenly become twice as expensive. Unfortunately, I rarely buy flowers at other times too. But I did propose to her in Paris, and I'm still riding high off the back of that romantically-speaking. |

In fairness everything has become a commercial rip-off from New Years Day Sales right up to Christmas. The smaller rituals really haven't got a chance. Still, nice to see Mariel's little lad has the right idea though.

I agree, Mariel's son has the right idea and it cost very little. Things could be done that doesn't cost that much... like making a mock up of the place you proposed to your wife (in your own home) and does't have to be fancy food... just something romantic so you could re-enact your proposal? ![]() I can't believe I suggested such a thing. But would be nice to know ramanticism is still alive somewhere.
