New weapon - season 7

Any ideas what the new weapon that members of SG-1 are using by mid season 7. A clear example would be Sam during "Avenger 2.0" when she and Felger gate to P5S-117 to fix the DHD.

It looks fully auto, with either a standard vertical magazine or a double chambered belt feed cartridge, and has a decent looking sight and a forward grab handle vertically below the barrel. Barrel also seemes to be fitted with a circular offset heatguard.

With box magazine:

With the double-chambered belt-feed magazine:

I reckon it looks like another one over Teal'c's left shoulder.

They must be short of weapons on set, since the foreground weapons are both different again, apparently M249 and MP5.

I'm surprised nobody has posted yet. But the show has trended to being cutting edge of what their advisor says is used "in the field."

To me, a lay person, the P-90 was cool looking but with a rapid fire rate and only a 50(?) shot magazine it maybe was too cutting edge. This one looks something with a bit more ammo. And I recall reading somewhere that the gravity feed of the P-90 was prone to jamming if not well cared for or if it got bumped around. Sometimes it's the tried and true that works better, so someone would go back to using the undermounted clips. And the site would be an advantage if it was night-vision or heat-reading able. (but I am going to miss the nifty laser lights if this is the new standard issue  )

A mix of weapons isn't necessarly a shortage. Different ones have different abilities. ie. snipers use a different gun for the long distance.

But again, you could be correct, look at Hathor in first season and the base personell get a different gun out of storage...

As far as I can tell it's an M4A1, using the slightly more unusual C-magazine for that slightly alien look. Perhaps the reason for the change is that the M4A1 is used by American special forces, whereas the P90, so far as I can tell, isn't. In fact, it would only be used by "support troops", e.g. dismounted tank troops, rather than special forces or infantry.

For a visual guide to the mixed weapons, this comes from Orpheus:

It looks like being (front to back): M4A1, M4A1 with M40, sniper rifle, P90, M4A1

That sniper rifle looks like a HK MSG-90. Sexy-looking rifle for sure.

It certainly looks like being some sort of short-barrelled MSG90-A1 military variant.... now you mention it!
