On BtVS - she was just a minor character -

she got more development by becoming a vampire than she ever had as one of Cordy's lackies...

personal opinion

yeah, i think probably one of her best moments on buffy was actually more of a cordy moment (when cordy tells her off cause she wants to date xander)..... i like that one

Nah -

my fave Harmony moment from BtVS is the 20 questions w/ Spike -

Spike: Is it smaller than a breadbox?
Harmony: Nope. 4 left.
Spike: Is it bigger than a breadbox?
Harmony: No. Only 3.
Spike: Harmony, is it a sodding breadbox?
Harmony: Yes! *claps* Someone's Blondie Bear is a 20 questions genius!

Of course - on that last point, I must disagree, b/c doesn't one traditionally BEGIN the 20 questions game with 'is it smaller than a breadbox?' ?? If so, Spike would have solved that MUCH closer to the beginning of the game. Makes you wonder what his OTHER 15 questions were.

i thought she looked super great in this episode. she's prettier now than as a teenager.

and actresses who play dimwits--hard to assess their actual intelligence. now and then it turns out they really do have toast for brains. but i was watching the Angel yesterday where she shows up all empowered, thinking about how she pulled off a few complex moves.

I don't think Mercedes McNab is as 'blonde' as Harmony - I've never read / seen interviews with her, but sometimes, acting like a dimwit is harder than actually being one. (Although, she did get angry at JM and tell him where to go b/c he didn't call her --- not sure if that makes her 'dim' or just unaware of the way guys are ) -- Really, I like Mercedes. She plays Harmony very well and props to her for that. I haven't seen her do anything else, so I have nothing to compare it to, but if you think back to "The Wish" - when she had to be 'not ditzy' - she did pretty well there too -

We'll just have to wait and see what else they give her to do on AtS...

was thinking of kirsten dunst when i mentioned it. i always thought she'd be so cool. turns out, really no.

the only mercedes article i've read was in a, ahem, "lad's magazine," so a little tough to tell. but she looked fab, and i think they're investing in her. and i'm glad. she's a vampire, has no soul? but *wants* to be good? she said so! so, okay, stepped away from All the mythology with this idea. but whatever.

still don't miss that other female they used to show us.

eta: yay! page two!

[Originally posted by H2: VAMPIRE FIGHT... Need I say more?? That was the single coolest fight in Whedon-verse history. Yeah, sorry, Ob - it tops the Buffy vs. Glory fight.]

Not even close, but it is a matter of personal taste. Maybe we should have a poll!!!!

[H2: And the Mt. Dew in the cup!!]

Okay, a personal observation - Mountain Dew is my favorite non-alcoholic drink of them all (but its name comes from another name for moonshine, the product of illegal stills owned by mountain folk).

I drink a ton of the stuff. Even before Pepsi bought it and made it available across the country, I used to guzzle the stuff up on summer vacations to visit my family in the south.

Programmers for Microsoft used to talk about working around the clock to design software and building stacks of empty MD cans in their offices - it was a friendly competition to build the highest pile. They drank MD because it has more caffine than cola.

[H2: Lindsey is back!]

Very good news. He left too suddenly. But it still won't be the same without Lilah around. I know Eve is supposed to fill that role, but its just not the same.

[H2: ...the guy who 'translated' the text for Angel and Spike --- That was Wesley's guide from the end of last season - remember? The guy who was kicked out of the Watcher's council for whatever it was.... no wonder Wes had to be away.]

Well, no. I think Wesley had to be away so they would go to someone else for the translation, a translation that Wesley couldn't double-check. After all, someone evil working at W&H is hardly a revelation, in fact, up until recently it was a qualification for employment.

[H2: is Sirk working for Lindsay? Or is he on board with the Sr. Partners - who may actually be trying to get rid of Angel?]

I thought it was pretty clear from Eve & Lindsey's conversation that he was working for Lindsey. I feel sure that Lindsey is pulling something behind the Senior Partners' back. Sure, Lindsey's out to get Angel. Angel caused Darla's death in a way, remember? 'Course with everyone having no memory of Conner, we have to wonder what the public story is about whatever happened to Darla.

[H2: I think Harmony and Spike are hilarious together]

The thing that made me giggle was that silly smirking face that James put on. His eyes all crinkled up, overly-big grin. I think that's a new face for him.

I like Harmony for comedy-relief. I almost died at the end of episode one -

WES: Spike?
ANGEL: (angrily) SPIKE!
(pause)
HARMONY: (peeking in) Blondie Bear?

But she doesn't make a good replacement for Cordy. I mean Fred is the only woman on the team now. Harmony is a vamp who claims to be reformed, but she's not reliable and certainly not part of the team. Eve is the Lilah substitue.

I don't know, they almost need another white hat woman to balance things out, now that they've added Spike. I mean its 5 males-to-1 woman if you count Lorne.

===========

My favorite Harmony quotes:

HARMONY: So, Slayer... At last we meet.

BUFFY: We've met, Harmony, you half-wit.

HARMONY: I'm the half-wit? Uh, excuse me, but you're the one who's fallen into my... uh, trap.

BUFFY: Harmony, when you tried being head cheerleader, you were bad. When you tried to chair the Homecoming committee, you were really bad. But when you try to be bad... You suck.

-------------------

HARMONY: I'm not going to make the same mistakes you did. I'm doing my homework. Reading books and stuff.

SPIKE: What, Evil for Dummies?

-------------------

SPIKE: You look good.

HARMONY: I feel good.

SPIKE: I remember.

-------------------

HARMONY: No threesomes unless it's boy, boy, girl... Or Charlize Theron.

-------------------

And when Harmony called Drusulla "Morticia" I had a giggle fit.

-------------------

HARMONY: And you can say good-bye to this [her bottom] because you're not gonna see it any more ever. Unless you run into me somewhere and it's me walking away from you... But even then... I'll probably just... you know... back away.

-------------------

[And who can forget - ]

HARMONY: Oh, I'm gonna stake you! I'm coming after you, you bad, evil vampire, and I'm gonna slay you! I'm sneaking up, and I'm going to stake you so much with my slaying powers that I have because I'm the Chosen... Oh, Spike!

You're up on the poll starting - someone else needs to start a thread here - it looks so weird when I'm the one starting 'em all - aside from the ep threads ---

Don't like Mt. Dew - but I *loved* the way James said it - dunno why - it was just - different or something - but - I don't drink much in the way of 'soda' anymore -- water and Sunnydelight is about it for me...

Well, yeah, Wes had to be away so the Fang Gang would be forced to ask someone else for help, but Wes couldn't be there at the end or later in the ep b/c he would have been able to 'refute' or 'retranslate' whatever Sirk had translated.

What I don't get is, why did the Fang Gang take Sirk on his word? Knowing that a good chunk of their clientele is evil - why would they just take everything off the top? I mean, I know Angel ran off b/c Spike did -- I don't really expect Spike to wait around for someone to verify the translation, but Angel? Thought he knew better than that.

Well, considering the poor man hasn't had much chance for smile-age over the last several seasons - probably. Would it have killed Joss and co to let Spike have one tiny minute of happiness so he could genuinely smile for just a second? gah - everyone else gets to smile - but nope, not Spike -- yeah, just me ranting - I'll be done in a minute...

Harmony -

I don't think she's there to 'replace' Cordy - she's too periphreal. And why is 5-1 such a bad ratio for the Fang Gang? On BtVS it was mostly girls and Xander (Spike wasn't a member of the Scooby Gang - not officially anyway) -- Buffy, Anya, Willow, Tara, Dawn - 5-1 there too - after Giles left. The *problem* is that they're doing the same to Fred that they did to Xander - shove her (him) off to the side and not really give her (him) any part of the story to work with. It's kind of sad really. All this potential character development stuff and they lay it all on the 'Title' character - they need to spread it around... Lorne, Gunn - what do we know about these two? not all that much; Fred even - we don't know all that much about her either. Wes - we've gotten some more pieces, but there's a lot 'buried' we don't know about there either... (here ends my character development rant)

mostly Wes had to be away so that Alexis Denisof could have a honeymoon. so it made sense to arrange things the way they were.

if AD had not taken a honeymoon, would they have written him out of this episode--put him on sabbatical still? i'm not sure about that.

Eh - they might have - but probably not --

It is nice that they allowed AD to have a honeymoon - very nice.

Though, they still might have had him 'out of town' for whatever reason, but he would have said 'good bye' or something at the beginning, or turned up at the end to wonder what they were thinking --

The 'bulk' of the ep could have played the same, just tack a few bits on to the beginning and end with Wes 'questioning' their motives...

Bah. Spikes not a champion, he's a very naughty boy.
Getting back with Harmony wasn't bad, just becuase he's in love with someone else doesn't mean he can't sleep around. I didn't like Harmonys hairstyle this episode, it was too big.
Mountain Dew? Ewww.
The cup being close makes sense if it was true. The prophecy is about the vampire with a soul, and as both are in LA, the cup would try and work its way to them. Pre-determinism, if the prophecy is true of course.
Lindsey's back. Yay. I was totally surprised and overjoyed. Now we just need Kate and Anne to come back.

Why do you say that Spike isn't a Champion?

If the 'definition' for champion is to 'save the world' - well, then, Spike qualifies.

Did he do 'bad stuff' - well, yeah - but Angel has too - Angel doesn't always do everything right...
