Re: Stephen King's DarkTower series *Spoiler* *Spoiler* *Spoiler* When Roland is thrown back to the desert he has the horn, that tells me that the mistakes he made last time round stem from where we first meet him, maybe his mistake was letting Jake fall,he made the decision that catching up with Walter was more important than the life of one small boy.Part of my fascinating with The Dark Tower is speculating what could Roland have done different, the possibilities are endless ![]()

Re: Stephen King's DarkTower series Which I would respectfully disagree with. The first three for me are the best of the series, with the possible exception of SoS. I can understand someone not getting into The Gunslinger, but if you've reached The Drawing of the Three and that isn't doing it for you, I doubt the series ever will.

Re: Stephen King's DarkTower series Ok, expect spoilers in this! Yeah, the second and the third are cracking. I think the...third will be my perpetual favourite, followed closely by the second. The wizard and the glass I've only read the once and don't really feel inclined to read it again...Song of Susannah is all right, but...meh. Wolves of the Calla is pretty good, although I was expecting the wolves to be something else...the book hinted that they were going to be something unexpected and I thus I was looking forward to something...really mad! What I love about this series is how (just like the tower is the pin holding the worlds together) this is the series that holds all his books together. SK is notorious for adding hints of his books in other ones (Rosie in Rose Madder reading Misery (as in Paul Sheldon's series) for one, or the Overlook hotel mentioned in Misery.) But in the Dark Tower series, the amount of references to his books! The Crimson King...The Priest from Salem's Lot...The wanderer from The Stand...The kid from Insomnia (although of course that book is heavily linked to Dark Tower) and even things like the kid from "Everything's Eventual". And I even like how SK gets into his own story! Like he says in the afterword, some people might think this is arrogance, but this is his Opus Magus, and I think he's intitled to be in it! And it works well with the story, even if it does create some strange paradoxes! Anyway, I think you can tell I'm a big SK fan. And needless to say I love this series, and I'd recommed them to anyone and everyone!

Re: Stephen King's DarkTower series ### Don't read this unless you want to get spoiled ### I have read nearly all of them excluding the first one and they were okay. I loved how they were so original and imaginative. Probably my main reason for liking them. They weren't like other fantasy books in that way, it was different and definitely in a positive way. A train gone mad, schizophrenic woman in a weelchair saving the world by fighting, the author meeting his characters in the book and etc. Stuff like that in the books was just great. The hole series were like that, somehow psychedelic, like a picture from an ill mind illustrated. The characters were well described and generally cool although I somehow found them a bit lame. Somehow not interesting. And Eddie's obsession with his brother became after a while a little frustating. It's good that King used the brother as a way to deepen Eddie's character but really, WHO adores his brother in a way like that. King could have told something else about Eddie or his past instead of repeting the same thing all over again. And I liked the books 4 to 7 the most. In my opinion the style and the plot gets a lot better during the furthering of the series.
