| Just joined I'm a 30 something game designer from California. My work requires me to produce a lot of creative writing usually from the angle of providing compelling gameplay. Other times I am tailoring proposals to appeal to publishers, which forces my writing into a style of high enery, high detail in bite sized pieces. Sometimes that doesn't leave me much room to mature concepts past a prototype phase, but conversely it allows me to explore diverse themes and genres. My themes: I like machines, metaphysics, philosophy, political and societal mechanics and pyschology (paranormal and vanilla.) I love animals, land, the infinite universe and the idea of love. |

| Re: Just joined Hi (should make a booklet with interesting welcomes, this would sell a lot on this forum) You help in the game design?? Kewl What sort of games do you usually make and what's your time schedule??(Allways wanted to ask this to someone like you) (If you are ever in search for a character name, what do you think of Scalem ??)Okay should be talking about writing. Well if you ever feel the urge to read something I've written, in the aspiring writers section/ critiques: 'so here he goes' (It's under a huge bunch of threads by lacedaemonian ) |

Don't forget to get the contracts signed before you say anything interesting!!! ![]() So, Salamader, what are your Sci-Fi/Fantasy interests, then??? With all the people from California on this board, it makes me think that there is a lot of bored in that little state... |

| Re: Just joined Good to be here. Hope everyone in the states enjoyed the extended holiday weekend, I know I did. scalem: All of the games I have worked on have been science fiction based with the exception of a few cancelled projects which were realistic type simulations. I enjoy the work but the science fiction part is actually getting pretty thick - it's tough to come up new ideas for locations/characters/events that feel fresh. The Master: My favorite scifi books are Dune, God Emperor of Dune, Heretics of Dune, Chapterhouse une, Dolphin Island, Black Star Rising, Gateway, Battlefield Earth, Sirens of Titan. Not definitive but a start.Fantasy - Tougher bag here, I've enjoyed some Piers Anthony in the past and of course Tolkien to a lesser extent. More so roleplaying games like Gurps Middle Earth, ElfQuest, AD&D and Star Frontiers(sci-fi). I also like Lovecraft but who doesn't. Thanks guys! If you ever have questions about games let me know through the forum or it's too much clutter PM me. |

| Super Moderator | Re: Just joined Welcome, Salamander. Brian is right, Little Miss is very happy to have more Californians representing here. I was starting to feel awfully lonely here on nearly the tail end of the time zones. So Salamander, if you don't mind my asking, what part of California do you call home? I'm in the central part, as my info says. Too far inland to reach the beach easily, unfortunately - although it's been nearly as hot there this week, so far. Anyway, glad to meet you, and hope to see you around. |

Lots of fans here... But not to my liking... Well if you need recommendations, this is a great place for them!!!I used to play Traveller and AD&D - though these days I don't know any groups in my area!!! And once combined AD&D with Traveller... A bunck of AD&D characters waking up on a Traveller ship... And facing things they don't understand!!! It was excellent... I even played a duck in Call of Cthulu!!! Weird!!!Quote:
