Hey Rowan

Hi!
Wasn't Gatecon a blast?? I had so much fun. First time I have been and I doubt if I ever forget it.
Was trying to remember which one you were?? I remember the name but I met a LOT of people there, so not sure.
Anyhow. it was wonderful.

Who I was...

I was staffing registration [and playing back-up medic at times]. Medium build, about 5ft 9in, short dark reddish hair, radio on hip , running in circles a lot...

I'm also one of the 'SehkPartyCommand staff' [the party on Weds night] and was up front being a spotter during the auctions.

Yea, I remember you. I was the one that ran into the auditorium when Michael Shanks was there and had an asthma attack. I know I shouldn't run that fast but QS told me that Mike Shanks was in the bldg and I forgot all about my asthma till I got into the autitorium then I couldn't breath. The medics ran in and gave me oxygen. I got ok finally till I looked up and saw Mike Shanks. hehehehee

Ah... Hello!

Yep, Simon [the kind gentleman who was standing/sitting on your left, I believe] and I [the one kneeling on the floor in front of you] were your 'Medics for the Afternoon' just before the hotel staff appeared with their oxygen tank.

Michael seemed to have that effect on folks since two of my aid calls happened just before and during his panel.

Glad you're okay, but no running next year... Okay?

I wish there could be a next year but I'm afraid that this was a once in a lifetime trip. I loved the Gatecon and Vancouver is breathtaking, but I could never get enough money together by next year. My husband is retired and we live on a fixed income and if Betty hadn't helped me, I would have never been able to make the trip this year. She paid for my ticket to Gatecon, the tours, the hotel room and all I had to do is come up with enough money for my bus ticket and the money to eat on which was hard enough to come up with. I imagine that next year will be the last one since that is suppose to be the final season of Stargate, and I would love to see it but I don't know how I would do it. Everyone was so nice, and I had so much fun. It's really silly but I cried when I left Vancouver to come home.

Oh - I'm thinking that next year won't necessarily be the last Gatecon --

The PTB are planning a spin-off show -- IIRC from what Martin Wood said -

And just b/c the show's over doesn't mean that there won't be conventions -- Buffy the Vampire Slayer is over, but there are still cons planned for it and the actors from that show. Original Star Trek is done, but those guys still do cons. Battlestar Gallactica, Star Wars... all types of sci-fi shows from the past that have been 'out of production' for quite some time still have cons and gatherings ---

I have a feeling, as long as there is a love for SG-1 - there will be Gatecon!

So - keep saving those pennies -- maybe you can make it in 2005!

^check out that positive thinking! (Hey, I'm a pessimist - but sometimes that residual MacGyver optimism pokes its head out!)

The Future of GC...

I think you're right, HII. As long as there is an active fandom, there will probably always be a Gatecon.
