That's All There Is To It

Authors Note: Not that this matters to anyone but myself, but I wanted to clarify that I use one word in this POV that I typically prefer to leave out of my vocabulary. But, seeing as it is one typical to Jack's, I only saw fit to use it in this to convey the proper emotion I wanted to get across.
Also, please be aware that this is my first attempt at a SG1-fic, and the first fic I've written in quite some time. College just seems to be getting in the way....
(POV on how Jack might be feeling after Meridian. Spoiler: "Revelations" intro.)

That's All There Is to It
by Kelsey Layne

Carter was following Jack down the hall, badgering him about Daniel, wanting to know what they were going to do without him.

"What do you want me to do? He's gone! We've got work to do."

Jack stepped into his office and closed the door behind him.

What does she expect me to do? he thought to himself. He lost one of his best friends and just found out Thor had been killed by the Replicaters. What am I supposed to do? We've got bigger problems than just loosing Daniel to deal with. He leaned against the wall and sighed.

Jack sat down at his desk to clean his gun. It didn't really need cleaning, but he really needed something to do. For a few minutes his mind was pre- occupied, but as he was putting the gun back together his mind went back to what Sam had said.

"Dammit, he was my friend, too," he said under his breath. His eyes started to sting. He'd known Daniel for more than five years. Sure he didn't like him at first, but the guy had grown on him. It wasn't easy loosing him. And the fact that he wasn't even really dead didn't change matters. Daniel was still gone. His best friend was gone.

He put his gun away and rubbed at his eyes.

"He's gone, that's all there is to it," he told himself. He went to the door and stopped. He suddenly raised a clenched fist and punched the wall. Fine, I'll give myself a reason for pain; the thought quickly raced thru his mind, not wanting to really admit it. He held his fist still for a moment as the stinging pain coursed thru his arm, then subsided. "Just deal with it," he commanded himself. He opened the door and left his office.
