Star wars Prop.

My uncle used to work for Elstree studios. He did backgrounds and stuff for movies. He worked on all the original starwars films, the Indianna Jones stuff and other things such as the Dark Crystal and The Martian Chronicles (LOL remember that anyone) Thing is as a result I have one of the guns from the first starwars film. The rebels who are waiting for the stormtroopers to break in at the begininng, well Ive got one of theirs.
Just wondering what price I could put on a piece of memorabillia like that?

Check out eBay. You can probably find a similar item for auction and compare yours.

That's what my answer would have been, except if it's actually the real thing and you have provenance to prove it, then it is likely to be worth much much more. I think a lot of the ebay props for sale are replicas.

Yes, most of the ebay props for sale are replicas...and a good replica (ie...you took a german broomhandle mauser and customised it to match a blaster from the movies) will run several hundred dollars as do the actual licensed prop blasters sold through dealers.

So if you had a way to prove your prop was the real deal, you could probly expect at least that much.

See thats the problem. Im never gonna part with it but if I did I have no proof as such that it is from the film. My uncle just brought it back off set when the filming was done as a souviner (sic) before the rest was destroyed. I used to have threepios face mask and Chewies autograph but after moving house many times as a kid ive lost them. My uncle has a stormtroopers helmet. Ive managed to get him to leave that me in his will. LOL

Well, with no proof and only your uncle's word, I'd say that you have a unique collector's item that can't be valued in terms of money. It would only be worth what someone who doesn't care about certificates and such would be willing to pay. It's worth is more to you because your own uncle got it for you.

I'm about that way with a prototype Star Wars toy from Taco Bell back in 1997. Remember the line of kid's meal toys they had? My sis got one of the Yoda/Vader mirror boxes from before it's final design 'cause she worked at corporate headquarters. I'd prolly never sell it because it's worth more to me than anyone else would be willing to pay since she got it for me. See?

I have a replica stormtrooper rifle. It set me back around £100 and is from a company in the Uk called Relics. (they have some cool stuff including pulse rifles from aliens-with the pump action shotgun bottom) They do a nice 'metal' Han Solo blaster as well.

Not quite the real thing but it's prolly the closest I'll come to one.

For anyone interested :
