Ive been reading comics for years but just lately ive moved away from the mainstream and started reading other titles. My favourate is my namesake Luther Arkwright. Its by an english author by Bryan Talbot. It covers something called the multiverse an idea about parallel worlds that true have been covered before but not so intelligently and as lavish as Talbot makes it. His ideas for the parallels are fantasic, not just the "if the Germans had won the war."
Also ive just spent a small fortune on finally getting the third installment of Alan Moore's Miracleman (Originally Marvelman)
Any fans of Moore's work (IE Watchmen, V for Vendetta) should take a look at this. It takes a completely new view at the superhero, a more realistic slant, much the way that Watchmen is based around the introduction of Dr Manhattan and how that affected the world ffom the fifties onwards.
I also like Transmetropolitan, The darkhorse Alien series and er...Calvin and Hobbes?

A couple of blasts from the past there.

Watchmen I remember reading occaisionally, but I was not a great follower. There was also a strip in 2000AD called the same thing, if I recall correctly, that was more of a Time-Cop type series.

Marvelman was another I remember, but I am too likely to get it confused with with the various themes on the name Marvel.

There was also Doctor Morran, but I suppose as far as Sci/Fi Super Hero stuff goes he is veering close to Doc Savage and he appeared in Action. Morran was also the name one of Savage's opponents.
