Got to say there are times that Stargate and even dear old Star Trek gets me like that. Thankfully they only last 40 minutes ![]() In fairness, the books do take perseverance. They are long and quite heavy reading, if that is not your type of thing, and there are some that find the singing irritating. But what you do get, if you can weather the narrative, is a deep picture of a whole world and it's occupants in a facsinating adventure. All of that has been transferred to film, not perfectly perhaps, but with a far better eye on the details than many films and any TV production. For once it has yielded a film that does not rely upon the spectacular effects (which it has), but also the people that it is about and is explaining itself as it goes. Not an acqusation that can be levelled at Star Wars for instance (looking at the threads that are trying to explain what is happening and why on that section). I have taken the liberty of adding options for those that agree with you to the poll

Are you sure you're not narcoleptic? I suppose the fascination with the stories is that it involves an epic quest to save the heavily detailed Middle Earth, while maintaining interesting characters and relationships. There are some parts in both the books and movies that I find slow but they fit in nicely with the part of the story being told.

At first I totally agreed with you thor, I’ve had the books it seems forever and just couldn’t get into them. After I watched the film it became much easier to understand and I have every intention on going back and reading the books again now that I understand a little more of what it is all about.
