Daniel in Season Seven --- S7 SPOILERS

It's been so quiet in here that I thought I'd start a new thread. All we seem to be doing is drool over the man, decide if he is a boxers or briefs kind of guy or debate the boonie or bandana issue.

Sooo...here's a thread about his character development in season seven.

Interview 'Through The Gate And Home'

A snippet:
"...I think there has to be some sort of evolution or change to Daniel when he comes back. It certainly needs to be so in order to justify why he's left the Ascended..."

"...We've [Michael and Robert C. Cooper] both agreed that Daniel would be more intense, more restive and less satisfied. He would be less inclined to smooth things over and would stop putting his faith in the hope that things will turn out all right...."

So what do you think about the 'new' Daniel in Season Seven? How will this change him? In what form? Is it a change you are looking forward to seeing or would you rather have the same character you watched for five years? What attitudes drew you to the character and you wish would stay the same?

I'm not sure how exactly this will play out, but if a more restive and action oriented Daniel was the only way for the character to be included more into the single episodes, then I'm all for it.

And with 'action oriented' I mean a Daniel who wants to change things he's unsatisfied with rather than to sit back in the hope they will play out the way he hopes, not a gun blazing macho.

Daniel changed a lot throughout the series, from being the wide-eyed, innocent scholar to a darker Daniel in season three and four and a clearly desillusioned Daniel in season five which was sometimes hard to watch. I saw a guy who was burned out and needed some R&R and a lot of hugs. I felt for him and when Meridian aired I could understand that Daniel had enough of all the fighting, enough of having to deal with all the sh** that was thrown his way and enough of a life of which he believed was worthless.

And that's what he told Oma. That he's not worth ascending, that he never did any good and when he did 'it didn't seem to have changed anything.'

It was difficult to watch a Daniel so deep down he couldn't see the daylight anymore.

Hopefully (or rather I'm sure) that this will change. No reason to see that back in the character.

Okay, I'll stop rambling now, I'm sure I had a point when I started this thread.

I for one am really looking forward to Daniel coming back (of course) and I can't wait to see how it all plays out.

Im also looking forward to Daniel not just taking it laying down and standing up for what he beleives in. I cant wait for him to stand up to Jack more and stuff like that.

I would think that Daniel would have had to change some for Mike Shanks to want to come back and play the character. Because in season five he was not really around much or had any good stories (well until the last few)

But having said all that I did love the season one Daniel...but ti would be great to see him change a little!

And of course it'll be absolutely great to have daniel back but i really think i'll miss adorable, floppy hair, glasses, lets find the peaceful solution, full of angst season one/two Daniel. (sorry i've been watching reruns - makes me miss him even more! )

I think I know where you're coming from, Maria.

Whenever I watch re-runs on TV or one of my older videos I miss S1 and 2 Daniel. That's not to mean I don't like him from season 3 onwards, quite the opposite. I've come to cherish the more grown-up Daniel from later seasons, esp. season seven Daniel.

It wouldn't make sense for him to be this wide-eyed, sometimes even naive after everything he's been through, so I'm content with his ageing and growing.

But I still miss the old Daniel sometimes, esp. after I've just watched episodes like Torment Of Tantalus.

Yeah I agree...I have been watching some of my dvds of season one and I love Daniel in those ones....some of my faves of all Stargate...but then its also nice to see him grow in other episodes....

Can't wait for season seven to start!

i find it amazing that everyone liked Daniel better in season one and two... i found him a bit more scarier. cause he was nieve and peaceful and then he would go and do something completely berserk that just startled me. but then he started growing and changing from his experiences, and i liked him much better. like they said in the Musicman, the sadder and wiser one for me. so i would like to see Daniel come back ready to work to change things instead of hoping they will fix themselves. because isnt that what the ascended do, sit around and give a nudge every now and then in the right direction?

so if daniel comes down from that status he would be rejecting what they preach... which implies that he would not want to sit by and hope everything goes for the best. so i, for one, am really looking forward to the new daniel.

don't get me wrong, i also can't wait to see daniel come back and agree that it would be a little unbelievable if he stayed as naive as he was.

it's just THAT was the daniel that i really fell for and sometimes it's hard to accept that people change.
