One more Example of the Arrogance of Grand Moff Tarkin

well basiclly have u ever wondered why a space station so big as the Death Star couldnt launch enough Fighters to defend itself against the rebel attack, well its quite simple, Tarkin didnt let them launch, The death star could have launched hundreds of TIE fighters, yet Tarkin didnt think they were a threat, the only fighters launched were thoose that Vader could command

This is one of my big problems with this movie, although it really does show how much contempt the Imperials held the rebels in,

but does any one else just find Tarkins decision just dumb? :rolly2:

I wondered why Tarkin gets to speak to Vader the way he does. He is at the very least, challenging of Vader's authority when he unilaterally decides to use the Death Star against Alderaan. You could ever say that he was insuborbinate at other times. Vader would never allow anyone else to speak to him the way Tarkin does, he has a very short temper as we see in ESB, so what hold must Tarkin have over Vader?

As for the thought that the Death Star was invincible, that is human nature. People always believe that big things are indestructable, hence the unbelievable nature of the sinking of the Titanic or the Bismark, and the collapse of the Twin Towers.

It was dumb of Tarkin not to listen to advice. He was told that the attack pattern held a danger, but he simply dismissed the analysis.

actually its never been explained why, but Vader was under the command of Tarkin in the first movie, i dont know why, or how, but that is why Vader didnt just kill Tarkin out of hand, although i also think that Tarkin had the emperors good graces at the time, so killing him would have been just stupid:rolly2:

No it's not explained... strange.

In ANH Leia says "I wondered who would be holding Vader's leash."

In ESB Vader has now taken over the position Tarkin held and has become the Supreme Commander of all the Empire's forces.

actually Tarkin was never in supreme command, that position is for the emperor, the next group of people in the military hierarchy were the 12 Grand Admirals. Tarkin was just a moff, which means he was like a sector commander, he was only in charge of the death star and all attached forces:rolly2:
