No Sound In Space

I don't know if anybody's noticed this, but theres something I find neat about this show: Whenever we see ships cruising through space, they don't generate any "floosh" sound. As a matter of fact, there is absolutely no sound. I find this kind of cool, like a accurate portrayal of space travel. Since theres no sound in space, shows like Star Trek got it all wrong, because their ships and the sounds of their engines can be heard while in space.

BTW, I still enjoy hearing lasers and engines and all that fun stuff in space(SW without any sound in space would just be weird, and I think everybody would agree), but Firefly doesn't need that stuff, which was a welcome change.

Hopefully what Im saying makes sense. Thanks

Couldn't agree more!

That's one of the things that sets this show apart from others.

I'm still wondering how they got past the gravity thing, though.

I second that! When I heard that there wouldn't be any external sound I thought it might seem a bit weird, but the way they did it was really good. I loved when there was folky music over the external shots.

Good attention to detail from Joss there, we'd expect nothing less of course!

I agree the music cues add any necessary "noise" to the exterior shots.

Yeah, I agree, the folk music sounds good, very good actually. I forgot to add that.

I really like the fact that there is no sound in space. Although it's small, I think it's the details and small things that really separate Firefly from other Sci Fi shows out there.

Oh don´t even get me started on the whole no sound in space. Starwars episode two when Obi Won is being chased by something and they launch the sonic bombs at him. IN SPACE. It was a cool special effect and interesting though on a delayed attack but a sound based weapon in vacuumous space, isn´t that just being a little too careless.

I am currently staffing on for Constrectores Para Cristo down in Piedros Negros, Cohelia Mexico. Most of my days are spent out on the field which is helping to build houses. Most of the time I don´t get to spend this long on the computer but today we are waiting for SBC to come in so I get to write a lot. Most of the time I don´t get to watch Firefly because we are doing something like eating dinner during that time, but whenever I get the chance to I watch it. I have only watched a handful of episodes so I haven´t gotten all the characters straight yet. Stupid Mexican cable decided to switch the timeslot that firefly was in to new episodes of twilight zone. Now I don´t know when it comes on.

Sorry, boaste. They aren't showing Firefly here anymore. Fortunately for me though, I've taped most of the episodes. I missed Our Mrs. Reynolds, so I'll have to wait till the DVDs are out to see that one.

I wish they would show reruns here. So far they haven't even given me that courtesy.
