wat is the general speed limit for your state?

as of march 1 here is SA it has been 50 km/h........... its so shi*ite. I thought it was for the whole of australia but then i saw the TV add that said just SA.

in brissie it was put to 50 about a year ago......its not that slow....only seems that way cause you are used to going 60

In residential areas of canberra its 50 unless otherwise signposted. That came in about a year ago. But mostly around town its 60 - 80. And on the parkways its 100.

phew i thought we were the only ones

i figure instead of people doing 70 under the 60 limit, people will be doing 60 under the 50 limit

Yeah...thats because of the urban myth that you won't get pulled over for speeding until your about 10 km over the speed allowed.

However, I don't think that some threshold applies for speed cameras. And its alot harder to talk your way out of a speed ticket if its computer generated as such!

We only got speed cameras in the ACT about a year and a half ago. There was a huge backlash. So now when anyone sees one you flash your lights so everyone else knows. It's so helpful.

However, red light cameras seem to be my problem. i have a habit of running oranges.

The whole idea was to bring SA into line with all the other states. But the real idea is for revenue raising. And since 50 is mainly for the back streets and not the arterial roads, I don't see the point really.
I mean, don't we teach kids to walk on the footpath and not the street.
