Think it has to be the psychotic Nishka! The voice is stereotypical, but it still manages to illicit foreboding visions of real threat. And he so enjoys doing unpleasant things! The Reavers are also a close running thing. Something that is folklore in most of the known galaxy, yet are known to exist. The implied threat and fear that induces suggest that there should be more to come. The Blue Hand men, the Alliance special agents. We could do with knowing a whole lot more about them.

[ray gower: The Blue Hand...] Maybe, but in the limited time available, they kinda impressed me as the X-Files element to the show. Of course, with Joss in charge, we can assume it would have been better, but we have no way to prove that. --- I didn't have to read the others, I was only looking for one - Jubal Early. Niska is psychotic, but Early is psychotic and eccentric and funny and full of trademark Joss non-sequiters. 'Nuff said. If you need proof, see my compilation under the Firefly Favorite Quotes thread. I am told by a friend that Richard Brooks also played a character called "Hasdrabul Skaras" in a US syndicated TV show called "Brimstone" and that the characters were very similar. I don't know much about this show, it always impressed me as a cheap rip-off of Highlander, but maybe someone can chime in on this theory. The series was the story of a demon-slayer. In a strange twist of fate, Richard Brooks played Skaras in an episode of Brimstone named "Slayer". HA!

Early was probably my favourite villain, but i am also quite partial to Saffron and also to Niska. Badger didn't really feel like a villain to me - more of a lowlife. So many of the others we didn't really get to see much of - I assume they would have been developed much later in the storyline - the Blue Hands for example. I figure we would have been due a great big "what's the deal with River?" arc at some point, and the Blue Hands would likely have to figure prominently in that story. The Reavers too, I found to be a potentially very fascinating story, creatures from myth, very little real knowledge about exactly who or what they are. I am still curious. Atherton was just a pompous idiot, but I wouldn't be surprised if he showed up again with a big grudge somewhere down the line...

I can't decide! Reavers for serious villains - I think that we were gonna find that the Blue Hand guys were part of a 'chapter one' plot that got tied up before the serious business of the Reaver invasion really began, and probably Saffron for comedy value. Rik
