fair enough. However, seeing that he was early come to manhood implies nothing other than he was a grown adult, fair and noble - that he was good looking and dignified/proud/possibly just (which living with elves he could not otherwise be). it suggests nothing of his wisdom at that time. indeed it implies he would yet become greater in body and mind, meaning he was not that experienced really, or at most that he was becoming wise already and would become moreso (which we know he did).

So, we have a direct statement from Tolkien concerning the level of Aragorn's developement, and nothing to go against that - not a single speck of evidence. Even the greatest of lore-masters of Middle Earth is pleased with that. But it seems it is not sufficient for you. Ok... I guess we'll have to agree to disagree on this one.

I get very protective of the relationships - or percieved relationships - in my books, and whenever a rival appears I can get very upset. Oddly I didn't feel like that when it came to Eowyn, maybe because I find it physically impossible to dislike a fellow feminist (I really need to stop with the annoying alliteration).

Actually if we try not to think about the characters, love is actually a complex yet simple feeling. Arwen may not be a feminist like Eowyn, she may be just nothing to some Eowyn-lovers out here but Aragorn loves her for the way she is and for who she is; she willingly and readily sacrifices everything for Aragorn, so I think it does justify why Aragorn loves her more. And well, Aragorn met her way earlier before he met Eowyn, didnt he? Eowyn is good and she's a woman of character, but not every man likes a strong woman.
