The first words that pop into my head when I think about this episode are: About time.

It was about time for a lot of things. About time for Trance to contact her kind. About time to see Dylan admit that he messed something up. About time to hear the Magog mentioned again. About time to see the Pyrians again. And definitely about time to see the new crew.

While I’m still on the fence as to weather or not I actually liked this episode, Point of the Spear does leave a lasting impression.

What I liked:

Seeing Beka as Captain Valentine. While I’m opposed to having new crew members on the Andromeda because I feel that they separate the original crew, making them more distant, I did like the use of the high Guard officers in this ep. I really liked the interaction between Beka and her flight squadron. She reacted just as I had hoped. She didn’t blindly accept them. She still felt some reserves about being their leader but she still did her job.

Tyr. He was great in this episode! I loved it when he and Trance were in the Maru and he tells her to get it together. He’s probably the only one on the ship who would have the gall to yell at her. It’s good to see that while he’s become a little more caring there’s still a survivalist deep down in there somewhere.

The Commonwealth working together for a change. I think this is the first time we’ve seen the newly formed High Guard working together with the other signatory fleets. It was nice to see some teamwork for once.

What I didn’t like:

They gave Harper like two scenes in the whole episode! What’s up with that? It seems like they keep pushing his character to the sidelines throughout this whole season. I hope we get to see more of him before the summer reruns.

Dylan didn’t take his own advice in this episode. Wasn’t it he who said in D Minus Zero that gathering information about your opponent was very important? Yet in this ep. he just runs right towards his attackers and gets himself caught in a trap. I do like to see Captain Terrific fall on his face once and a while, but this was one of those purely stupid moves. Both Tyr and Beka tried to warn him that it was all too easy and yet he refused to listen. Isn’t a Captain supposed to listen to his First Officer or is that only in Starfleet?

Trance. She was so gung ho about fighting in the last few episodes and now she just can’t handle it? That seems like a complete 180 and I wish the writers had given us more of a reason for that. She already believed in Dylan despite her people’s views, why should she doubt him just because of them now?

Questions:

If Dylan and Rommie are still active member of the Commonwealth, which is proven in this episode, why don’t they where their uniforms anymore? The Holo Rommie does but Dylan and Avatar Rom don’t. I wonder why?

Thumbs up

This definitely was a great episode I totally enjoy it. I have to agree with it was time to see the new crew, we have glimpses in some of the episodes but this one is more open about it. And I totally love see Beka with the squadron and of couse see the slipfighters use again. I totally love that ship.

Also I agree with the interaction between Tyr and Trance, I was harsh but neccesary. Even Dylan have to be more strong with Trance at the end. I think we haven't see him before talk to her that way.

Definitely a good and interesting story.

Sadly for me mmm not my favourite ep ....while it did clear up a couple of things and I did enjoy seeing the use of the crew I also found myself easily distracted whilst watching it.

Perhaps it needs another viewing to check it out again.

Cheers
