I hadn't seen it that way. I thought they were Agents (the authorities) but your idea of them being Hackers in the real world seems much more likely. It would make sense to attack the Matrix in this way.

There are some interesting comments on the animations here:

with some replies from Peter Chung.

The question "What's up with the hommunculus-in-a-jar in Matriculated" was one I wondered about too.

edit: 'Final Flight of Osirus' is on UK TV tonight (21/05/03) on Ch5, it follows a showing of 'The Matrix' and is followed by 'The Making of The Matrix Reloaded'.

I'm watching 'Matrix Reloaded' tomorrow.

Matrixculated and Beyond are excellent (Spoilers?)

Have finished viewing my Animatrix DVD and must say it is very good, both for Anime fans and of course of Matrix

Uneven quality...Final FLight of Osiris is of course a prelude to Reloaded....amazingly good graphics but story-wise very lite (although it has a very stylish dojo swordfight)

Beyond is truly beautiful and even manage to match FFoO for sheer "eye candy" plus its story is stronger than it. Sheer amazing pastel colours manage to evoke a very beautiful 3D scenes

My Fave is Matrixculated....introduces a whole new depth to the Matrix World or in this case, the "real world". First u see other types of machines than sentinels hunting humans....then how the humans instead of reprogramming captured machines to be "slaves" insteads provide them with a "choice". How they do this in their own Machine Matrix World is super. And has an ending that reflects perhaps that the Machines only have their purpose to guide them....

One interesting mention between 2 of the Humans about how do you know you are not dreaming now (in the real world) is very very interesting.....as pointed out, when all you have are dreams to experience how do you know you are now awake? hints to the future?

Just finished watching my DVD, too and I'm stoked I totally understand that kid now. Kid's Story was really well done. The thoughts this kid is having alone in his room are common for teenagers, but mean so much more in the world of the Matrix. The animation even changes during the chase and becomes irratic and flawed, echoing what our thoughts do during times of extreme stress. And now I understand why the kid credits Neo with saving him, when it's obvious that he really did save himself.

My only problem with Matriculated was that the humans were expecting the machines to be capable of choice. The fact that it ends the way it does gives testimony to the contrary, but why would the humans living in that world believe that machines would be able to chose life over programming? I did like that there were already humans in that world who were working with machines. Provides hope for the future.

My favorite is still Detective Story.

What? No Target near you? They had TONS of 'em here. I'd try BestBuy.com then. They were selling it for $15... haven't seen it cheaper.

In the UK WHSmith shelves are full of them £11.99 for the DVD & £9.99 for the VHS.

(Not meant as an advert for WHSmith, I'm sure they are everywhere.)

In the UK Channel 5 have shown at least 2 of them, they will probably show them all. They have been shown very late in the evening though.

And they are everywhere today Virgin Megastore, HMV.... (more expensive though DVD is £12.99.)
