Have they Left Too Much for the Last Film?

One of the big problems that face concerned fan fiction writers is that after a few outings with their favourite show, the bits no longer fit in the box from which they pulled them because they have grown too big to fit without sitting on the lid.

They know the state of everybody and thing at their start point, they also know exactly what state they must leave everything in, because there is the next episode.

As a goal it is actually quite difficult to achieve. Indeed the professional TV writers have much the same problems and to meet the required bland endings required for the next writer to work from, they invariably have to invent the fabled 'Magic and miraculous solution', which leaves everybody smiling.

I am now wondering if the Star Wars writers have fallen into the same trap?

In their next 120 minutes of film they have to find a story that:-
1/ Answers all the questions opened and left by the first two films,
2/ Kill all the Jedi,
3/ Create Darf Vader,
4/ Set up a new Empire, that is largely intact
5/ Have Obi-Wan and Yoda disappearing into hiding
6/ End with shots of two babies heading in different directions.
7/ And it has to make more sense than Clones.

In short do everything the first two were supposed help towards but have studiously avoided doing.

Make no mistake, it is going to be a very busy film! But has it grown too big to fit in the space available. Or is it going to need the degree of magic ending that makes Yoda's Jedi mind tricks look decidedly parlour grade?

I would say my own personal list of things that have to be resolved would be:

1) End the Clone Wars - perhaps explaining the difference between eps 4-6's storm troopers and the clones
2) Explain Yoda and Obi Wan's escape/retreat
3) Give us a good reason for James Earl Jones' voice appearing in Ep 3 - what happens to Anakin to require this
4) Explain the backstory of Ep 2 - who is Sifo-Dyas, what is the real nature of the conspiracy, is Sidious definitely Palpatine?
5) And most importantly, explain why the twins were split up, and what happened to Padme.

I don't really think that there is much need to explain the transition of the Republic to the Empire. We have already seen the first step with Palpatine being granted special executive powers re: the clone army. It makes me think of Napoleon's rise to power...

That pins down how I feel about the prequels exactly! They have given us a deep and rich backstory, but have not yet really done much to answer all the questions we had. In fact, all the questions most people had from eps 4-6 haven't been answered at all!

well it would seem that Tabitha got most of what i was going to say, so ill just give u my list

1 See how the clone wars ends, and who really wins
2 i want to see the battle between Anikin and Obi wan where Ainkin falls into the lave
3. i cant wait to see how the Emperor takes power and creates the Empire
4 I want to know what happens to Padame
5. we have the connection between Obi-wan and the lars so we know how Luke got to them, i want to see why Leia went to the Organas???

thats it, and yes i do think that they left to much out that will come back to haunt them in the making of Episode 3, i think it might be huried and not that good, but i also hope im wrong

Acutally...We don't have to kill all the jedi at the end of ep. three. We'd only have to see them START killing the jedi, and them getting kicked off Coruscant to be able to understand later when you get to ep. 4 that they're all gone.

Vader will have to be created in this one, yes, and anakin is well on his way there. All he really needs is a tip in the right direction and a well-timed fall into a vat of lava.

as far as setting up the empire, that's not tha thard either, all the pieces are already there for palpy to stick together. He's already got his army, and for all we know, he's got somebody else secretly building star destroyers. *grins*

The babies, well, I'm sure that they're gonna take care of padme getting preggers between ep 2 and three, and maybe even HAVING the kids. Like all the movies, there's probly gonna be a couple years (at minimum) gap between them. Enough time for that to happen.

And does it actually HAVE to make more sense than aotc? LOL.

Uhm, there's not a real difference. Except that the clones are fighting for the Empire instead of the Republic. Most stormies WERE clones, and then there were later conscripts and suchlike who were made stormtroopers as well.

What's there to explain? All the Jedi were getting killed, they had to escape so they could make a comeback later.

Anakin falls into lava pit, he probably kills his vocal cords, and is actually using some kind of voice modulator later in the movies. After all, if you notice, he's mostly cyborg by the time we see him again in ep 4.

I agree there. LOL.

They were split up for protection, if one was killed, the other would still be safe to be the next "your my only hope" kinda hero to bring back the jedi. As far as Padme, well, in RotJ, Leia says she remembers her mother (their mother), so it's likely that that's Padme. Of course, we still don't know WHAT happened to her, but at least we know she made it that far, yes?

Here's your answer:

http://starwars.com/databank/charact...ana/index.html

"During the Clone Wars, Organa befriended General Obi-Wan Kenobi, and the revered Jedi Knight served him well in that terrible conflict. When Kenobi's apprentice, Anakin Skywalker, succumbed to the dark side, Kenobi sent Skywalker's lover, Padmé Amidala, to Organa for hiding. Amidala hid one of her twin offspring in the high court of Alderaan, and this child, Leia Organa, was adopted into the Royal Family. "

Sorry, i waxed talkative, i'll wander out now. LOL
