| I remember the 'Hobbit' from primary school. Our teacher would read a chapter at the end of every day. It was so popular with the class that they asked her to read it again as soon as she finished. I have read it since, but not for many years now. It made me go on and read the 'Lord of the Rings' when I was only a little older, which I remember took some persevering in my early teens. That led me on to reading La Sprague Camp and Conan the Barbarian, Michael Moorcock and Elric, and other Fantasy. That lead me into 'Dungeons and Dragons' RPG later. I think there were other reasons why I started reading Science Fiction, but I guess I can blame that teacher for starting me reading Fantasy. And I can't even remember her name. |

| I too remember the teacher reading this to us as a child at school. It is a great book and I've read it several times since. The latest rumours from Peter Jackson is that New Line Cinema are negotiating with another film studio for the exclusive rights to this book. Looks fairly certain that a film will follow shortly. ![]() |
