Clone Wars The setup for the Clone Wars during 'Episode II' is great, it seems like something we would really like to see. Yet 'Episode III' will skip the wars and begin at their end. SciFi Wire has said that comic-book writer John Ostrander told the Newsarama Web site that upcoming issues of the Dark Horse series 'Star Wars: Republic' will delve into the history of the legendary Clone Wars. "To my mind, this is a pivotal moment in Star Wars lore," Ostrander told the site. "It has been referred to since the very first Star Wars movie came out, suggesting mystery and backstory that has intrigued and fascinated Star Wars fans ever since. As we now can see, the Empire has its roots probably here, with the great military buildup." SciFi Wire went on to say that the stories will cover the span between Star Wars: Episode II and Star Wars: Episode III, which begins with the end of the Clone Wars. The cycle will conclude shortly after Episode III is released and will lead directly into the comic adaptation of the film, Ostrander told the site. Familiar characters from the films, such as Anakin Skywalker and Obi-Wan Kenobi, will make appearances in the comic, but Star Wars creator George Lucas will have final approval on the storyline, Ostrander said. "The fates of certain characters certainly will be decided by George Lucas in the films and we're aware of that," Ostrander told the site. "It's not all that different from playing with an established franchise character such as Superman or Batman; you know you're never going to kill that character off so, instead, you focus on showing different sides of a given character." I've not read many Star Wars books, I would expect that both the quality of the writing is poor, and that they would diverge too much from George Lucas's vision of the continuity. However, everyones comments about EU books here are that they are very well written, and if George Lucas okays them as being canon, they must be correct. The advantage of books is that you can expand on an area not covered by films. Unlike the 'Star Trek' franchise with about 700 hours of TV and film, 'Star Wars' has only had about 10 hours filmed, but it is a much more divergent universe, in terms of the number of societies, aliens and technologies. I'd still like to see the Clone wars on film though; maybe there will be flashbacks?

I like the idea of flashbacks, but who knows? I have a feeling that much of the third film will concentrate on fairly personal scenes - including fight scenes of course, but one on one's rather than mass fights. I think that the film will be preoccupied with showing us Anakin's spiralling descent into madness, rather than the larger scale events. So, flashbacks maybe, but maybe not.

The horrors of war could be an interesting spur to Anakin's growing darkness. His mother is now dead, would he need further pain and loss to propel him in the direction of the dark side? We know Padme and Obi Wan survive for at least a while, but losing friends and allies in the war could push him even closer to Palpatine.

well some of the clone wars past has been explored in the novels, but we still know so little. i agree with u both that there could be a lot of interesting storys that can come of it, i just wish Lucas would cover it more in the movies to give us a more definete acount of what happened. and as for flash backs, if they want to show things that have slowly pushed Anikin to the Dark side then i cant see them not using flash backs:rolly2:
