I've had a thought about the whole CPR thing. Vampires are dead death cannot bring about life; only more death. Therefore maybe CPR isn't possible, because they only breathe death - which would make smoking possible.

As for the Dru thing, this a long stretch and I think Ob will be able to tell me if it's possible, but with enough strength would it be possible to knock someone out by severing the brain's connection to the body?

As for Spike drowning...well I suppose if they'd played with his mind enough...then anything's possible. Also I thought the Ubervamp could have been squeezing his neck really hard....

I think it had to be a goof by the writers for 3 reasons

1) CPR is simply supplying air to lungs that are not fuctioning. You could do it with a bicycle pump if you had to...a;though it would be difficult it can be done.

2) severing the connections between the brain and the body is as good as decapitation, which I believe is one way to kill a vamp. thus it would have killed Dru not just knocked her out.

3) no way, no how can you drown a vamp. and I don't believe
Spike would get freaked out by someone putting his head under water...except to rip their head off when he got up

That last one - that's what we've been saying - and it's what prompted this good ole jaunt down medical lane...

So - are we in agreement that Joss and co goofed on this one? as in, they weren't consistent with things?

I think they could have skipped over this issue altogether by not drying to torture Spike by shoving his head under water... it would have, then, not violated S1 canon...

This was fun...

Yep...a definite goof...

But I don't agree that severing the brain-body connection would kill a vamp, full decapitation would be needed.

Outside of the initiative, I don't think anyone would be inclined to try and sever a vamp's brain connections rather than simply decapitating them....

Better late than never, so here's my thoughts.

1)Haven't got a clue about the CPR thing.

2)I think it would be the spinal column that would have to be severed for a vamp to dust. But if you cut off the blood supply to the brain by applying pressure to the carotid artery, it would cause the person to pass out. Perhaps that's why Dru passed out.

3)Spike underwater is probably another goof. The only possible explanation i can think of is:
Spike gets his head shoved under the water, and some water goes down his windpipe. Everybody has an instinctive fear of drowning, so he panicks, hence all the thrashing. Not sure about him being unconcious tho. Can vampires faint?

Anyway, i don't think we're gonna find any plausible explanations. We may just have to accept that maybe Joss isn't all-powerful.

I don't agree, I think it has to be complete decapitation otherwise Buffy would have used that to her advantage. As for Dru, vampires have no heart beat, therefore no blood flow...(Or so I assume.)

P.S

JOSS IS GOD
